I'm just posting this so you guys can laugh at my stupidity. I was playing 1/2 Live yesterday at a card room that had a promotion for 5k every 4 hours to the high hand, along with an instant 5k payout to a royal. I just went cus I figured it would be a fish fest. Anyways I have KsQs and I raise to 25 or something from some limps get 5 callers flop comes Js 10s 5c so I bet 55 and everyone folds. A hand later I realized what I had done. I had somehow forgotten about the promo and never even took it into consideration that I HAD A FUCXXNG ROYAL DRAW. I am literally having nightmares thinking about what I had just done I actually could not sleep. Maybe I'm over reacting but the EV of that bet was like -$800. Nobody folded the As or the 9s Either in a 9-handed table. I cannot think about anything else I swear. That was the single dumbest thing I've ever done I'm a broke college student and literally one of those two cards could have changed my entire life. Trying to get over it please tell me if I'm being a bitch and over reacting.

And to make it worse I actually misread the board I found out later the 5 of clubs I thought I saw was a 5 of spades. Im always so careful about reading the board and being focused I cant believe I actually did that. Never misread the board before either.

Yes 8% of the time you made a very bad error. Your ev calculation is wrong as on the 9s you get 5K not 10K.

It was only 5.3k either way not 10k. The calculation is taking into consideration the card removal 9 handed 8 people folded 2 cards that were not the As or 9s. But still lost hundreds of dollars worth of EV there. That **** stung.

OP says “I just went cus I figured it would be a fish fest.”

OP proceeds to complain about a small percentage chance of missing out on “life changing” 5k so clearly the reason he went wasn’t because he wanted to feed on the 1/2 fish but to hit the “life changing” 5k.

OP turns out to be the fish.

No I can’t possibly be a fish that’s not possible

And yes I was kinda pissed because the only reason I didn’t just check was because I wasn’t focused on winning the stupid 5k but after the hand I realized how much ev I lost

Personally if I was in your situation I would be investing my time in my college studies and Poker would be only played a few hours a week at affordable levels as a past time. If your a broke college student as you say do you feel playing $1/$2 is a good idea? As for the error in judgement you made, there are many players who can say what if? but you gotta just forget about it and move on.

Good luck with your studies.

Yes this is a very poor thing to do, I once played at a jackpot casino where not only payouts but the whole table shares in it some, some fool like you did the same thing he actually folded the jackpot hand , they dealt out a royal and he had the 98 of same suit to make the bad beat for about 10000 plus ; and when I complained he got mad. So at least you are in the right mind set; it is true the only way to beat jackpot rakes is to play to win it.
