Hello guys! I am new here and to poker as well (1 week playing). This is my very first post.

This was my last bad beat:

$0.02 NL Holdem

UTG+1: 86 BB
MP: 82 BB
MP+1: 65.5 BB
CO: 98.5 BB
BTN: 98.5 BB
SB: 131 BB
Hero (BB): 101.5 BB
UTG: 106 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 7 7

fold, UTG+1 calls 1 BB, MP calls 1 BB, fold, fold, BTN calls 1 BB, SB raises to 3 BB, Hero calls 2 BB, UTG+1 calls 2 BB, MP calls 2 BB, BTN calls 2 BB

Flop: (15 BB, 5 players) 9 A 9
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, MP checks, BTN checks

Turn: (15 BB, 5 players) Q
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, MP bets 1 BB, BTN calls 1 BB, SB calls 1 BB, Hero raises to 4 BB, fold, MP calls 3 BB, fold, SB calls 3 BB

River: (28 BB, 3 players) 7
SB checks, Hero bets 94.5 BB and is all-in, MP calls 75 BB and is all-in, fold

Hero shows 7 7 (Full House, Sevens full of Nines)
(Pre 56%, Flop 0.1%, Turn 0%)
MP shows 9 A (Full House, Nines full of Aces)
(Pre 44%, Flop 99.9%, Turn 100%)
MP wins 172 BB

When villain called my raise at the turn, I was sure he had Ax (but not A9 ).

How stupid do you think I was? I definitely didn't see it coming...

First off, this isn't a bad beat. You called pre, when you were a slight favorite. The river was a bad one for you, so at that point it is a cooler, but I wouldn't call it a bad beat.

As to how you played the hand. I just have no idea what you were thinking at any point after the flop. Not sure why you would raise the turn, but I'm sure you were just trying to get him to fold. When you bink the river - were you trying to get called, or trying to get him to fold? I think you wanted him to call. If so, betting more than 3 times the pot is probably not the best way to extract value. Will he call with just an ace? Only if he hates money. Will he call with a Q? Only if he hates money even more. Will he call with a 9? Maybe, but what 9s does he have? A9; Q9 both beat you. And he took a very weird line with a hand like K9 or J9 or T9. Even those he will probably fold. Will he call with a full house that is bigger than yours? Definitely. Bear in mind that he raised preflop, and AA is also in his range - and he could easily play it slow like this because that is what a lot of people do when they don't expect their opponent to have much.

So, the bottom line is you made a bet that would be folded by almost all hands that you beat, and will be called by all hands that beat you. I wouldn't call that stupid, I would call it inexperienced.

Thank you very much @VBAces, lessons learned, including bad beat definition.

About what I thought:

At the turn, since SB and I checked and MP betted only 1 BB on a 15 BB pot, I thought maybe I had the better hand of the three, so I raised. When they called and not reraised, my guess was they had Ax or Qx but not a 9 neither AA, QQ or AQ. From this moment on I was waiting to check or fold, but that 7 came out and I messed it all up!

In my opinion I wouldn't call that bad.

I would call that utterly ******ed instead. What in the hell were you thinking in that hand? Were you even thinking or are you braindead by any chance? This might be the worst played hand I ever witnessed.

In the future just fold all rivers. This will save you a lot of money.
