There was a change like quite a while ago. Since then you always have to download the pic/gif to your pc/or cloud storage or whatever before you can upload it. Cos you know direct links would of have been too easy. We have to keep the outdated look of the site so as not too attract any youngens. Morph squad took on it, prolly...
