No this is not a mortgage, a line of credit, a student loan or a credit card balance.

This is the money that I owe to people. About a dozen different people. Backers, stakers and simply friends and family members that previously bailed me out following horrendous run bad.

After calculating all the money I owe, it actually feels good to know it is a finite measurable tangible number. It seemed like I was falling in a bottomless pit. Every time I had an urgent need to come up with some money ($500, $1000, $2000, etc) it was only the tip of the iceberg. Sometimes I would get that bailout loan or donkament shipment and cover that urgent need. It would feel like I have money to spare. Sometimes I would just lose it all in hopes of winning back my existing debt.

Whenever a homeless came up to me for change I would tell him I was a quarter million dollars poorer than he is. I guess that estimate isn't too far behind since I have a deficit of several thousands per month (car costs, interests, expenses).

Most of the money I owe to close ones is not pressured. In fact, they trust me and I pay the interest every month. It is money borrowed from the bank at very low interest rates that I was given the privilege to "temporarily use" until I "get my **** together".

Although I am a break-even online player, about $75,000 of that hole comes from the rake paid on PokerStars.

As I am in the positive playing live poker in the US, the rest has to be the sum of my losses at my local cardroom (extorbitant rake), gas expenses (written off from poker winnings/losses), parking tickets, the sum of interests paid on debt and maybe a few tens of thousands in sports betting.

Let us assume that my legit earnings from work and living expenses offset each other more or less and that this debt is a direct result of the rake.

Back in 2011 I was about $90,000 in debt. Went on a $155,000 upswing. Paid back none but the most pressing debts. Lost/spent it all in less than a year.

Being $171K in debt and broke is a problem. Being $271K in debt with $100K cash is not that much of a problem.

So what's my move now? Donald Trump went busto to robusto several times in the billions. Money is just a number to me now.

Best is to pretend I'm at zero, forget about the debt, and start building up/moving up. Then the money will grow before my eyes. The problem is every time I have a winning session, it is just in time to pay off some of the most urgent and pressing debts/expenses.

"Although I am a break-even online player, about $75,000 of that hole comes from the rake paid on PokerStars."

That's not how it works.

I don't understand this statement at all. If you are not winning enough to cover rake, then you are not a break-even player.

My advice... Get a job and pay off everyone you owe.
