If you ever get the degen itch again you can always just watch Emory monkey off money until the urge subsides.

great post mike, I remember when you first started posting seriously in the plo forum and were talking about having sort of heated your way into the 25/50, and having seen some of your hhs, I figured you'd last maybe two weeks tops.

I've definitely come to respect your ability to think about the game, and I really empathize with a lot of the meta-considerations you've always been so vocal about. We'll catch up for a pint one of these days... let me know if you're going to be doing any EPT stuff, I'm going to try and make it to a few events while I'm over there.

I want to have the same aspirations and concerns as most everyone my age; most people don’t think in 6 and 7 figures, and really, sums this large have been much more a negative, rather than positive influence on my life."

Absolutely. Coming from someone who has made a similar amount, I completely agree with you gordo that the negative aspects from poker can be rather overwhelming. I think most people get into poker as a fun hobby where hopefully they can win some money. Then in time if you are lucky and committed enough to reach high stakes it can get really stressful. Especially when you start running bad and as a result start playing bad….it’s the recipe for life tilt. It sucks when you don’t have that satisfaction of being at your peak bankroll. With that said it feels ridiculous to ever complain about this to anyone that hasn’t played enough poker because they will never truly understand.

Thank god, I haven’t played PLO (where I understand variance can be 2x as worse) but these kind of downswings can really test your love for this game. The fact that you are in a pretty nasty downswing at the moment is kind of is important. Since I think everyone at your point seriously thinks about quitting but never really follows through with it. Either way I wish you the best of luck. BTW, I am 3rd year undergrad at WSU btw, you going to grad school at UW?

I went to WashU in STL, not sure which WSU you're referring to..

With regards to doing this while on a downswing - I felt extremely alienated from my friends during my BR peak, likely more-so than I do now, and seeing as how that is what primarily bothers me about poker, I don't think that the downswing plays too important a role in my decision.

I like what you're doing Mike. You'll still make an amazing hourly at $3/$6 with no stress, but can go about enjoying the rest of your life.

Best of luck with everything.

god, people posting that they're going to quit poker when they just mean "eventually" and are going to keep playing for a while are so lame.

p.s. still interested in coaching if you're offering
