Tips for LA LHE? Tips for LA LHE?

Headed back to LA next week/weekend for some work stuff and then planning to battle LA's finest in limited hold em.

Been a few years since I've been and if anyone had any comments/tips on the lay of the land, it would be much appreciated.

I'm not a professional. More of an "enthusiastic poker hobbyist". Usual game is 20/40 LHE (but don't need my arm twisted to hop in 40/80 if I've been running good). Also play mix and some PLO.

Staying at The Bike. I'm pretty meh on Commerce. But wanted to know if it was worth checking out the revamped Gardens or trekking to Hustler or Hollywood Park.

Cheers everyone. Plus if you live out in LA and we bump into each other, first round's on me.

If you're really a "Raizin Azian", that's a good start. You'll fit right in.

20-40 LHE is almost always a good game with a lot of limping and chasing, but the rake sucks, especially when you consider the jackpot drop.

40-80 rake also sucks, but not as bad proportionately to the limits. However, that game is hit and miss regarding its quality. If there's a 60-120 running, there's a better chance the 40 is good, as the 60 will take a lot of the better players away.

Commerce no longer has free food. You have to earn it at $2/hr via the players card. So be sure to get one.

60-120 is a time game instead of rake, though there's still a $1 jackpot drop per hand.

They’ve been doing free food for the last two months on a trial basis. I think it might be here to stay. Also they do 3/hr at bike and commerce.

HG might be worth checking out but I only play at commerce usually because I think the games are the best there.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. When I went two times ago, they didn't charge me.

Last session I had a stomach ache so I didn't order anything.

Games aren't "best" at Commerce, just most plentiful. Like.. if you want 25/50, Hustler has a game that's almost always good.

I haven't been to the new HG since the upgrade from the tent. I've never been to either but I don't think you'll find the action you're looking for at Hustler or HPC.

I also only play at commerce over bike but that's because I play a lower/worse game and it's easier/faster to get on. I think food might be slightly better at commerce too, but let's be honest it's not supposed to be good anyways, it's just sustenance.

Games at commerce are usually either loose passive or tight passive, which I prefer personally over a more maniacal game (although occasionally there are games like that too).

Also I have my own personal reasons for not supporting Hustler.

Thanks for the input, guys! And I figured I'll just don a Lakers hat, back raise the 94 of diamonds UTG, and blend right in with the rest of #TeamYellow out there.

HG is by far my favorite place to play higher limit poker in LA. The staff/service/food far outshines Commerce...which is a dump littered with angleshooters and angry, unpleasant people in general.

I'd rank the LA venues as following:
1. HG
2. Bike
3. Commerce

Thanks for epic thread.

Going to LA strictly for poker Dec 11 - Dec 15.

Commerce > Bike > Hawaiian Gardens?

20/40 - 60/120 is what I'll play. My best friend who I'm going with will probably play 20/40 - 200/400.

Just got back. Played 20/40 and 40/80 exclusively at The Bike.

Games were amazing. Staff was great. Comps were solid (easy to use card for food and at Starbucks). Became friends with a bunch of the props. I don't think I'll ever go to Commerce unless I'm playing higher. Love The Bike.

Thanks for all the awesome info everyone.

Unfortunately can't make LA next week / 2019.

Hopefully my best friend going to Commerce next week crushes it. Secretly hopeful.he plays 60/120+ exclusively @Commerce.while getting drunk with Sean Snyder

OT: Best friend life motto is if you don't eat you die.

OT 2: Argue if you don't drink you die

Did we play at all?

I'm a tall 40s white guy with a beard who wears a hat and glasses or sunglasses.

Status update on LA LHE.

Argue ranking is still Commerce > Bike > Hawaaian Gardens.

My best friend stopped by Commerce for a little 60/120 as in 6pm -> 8am for 3000 to 8700 for a nice day at office lol

Tldr but Commerce definitely best casino in LA for LHE in my biased opinion

Commerce is definitely the place to go for upper limit action. Nice score!

Just got back from my 1st LA poker trip, played 1 session at bike and stayed at commerce 2 nights.

I played 40 & 60, games were generally good with 40 seeming much softer.

Bike was cleaner and more comfortable with nicer people. Waiting times might be longer there due to fewer games.

That's a pretty good summary.

Also the Bike games break way more easily, and they tend not to be good when shorthanded (the fish there usually quit when game starts breaking down).

The best place to play even if it’s the most depressing casino.

Howdy LHE folks --

Long time, no post. I hope 2020 is off to a blisteringly +EV start for you all.

I am headed off to the City of Angels on a business trip in a couple of weeks; I'm staying at The Bike (hooray for tax write-offs) with designs on making that my primary venue to go about the chip-flingin'. However, before I chisel those plans in stone, I thought I'd take a moment to piggyback off RaizinAzian's recent post and gather some intel, if you fine folks would be so kind as to share your wisdom. My game is 20/40 at home (Seattle) and I don't have plans to pursue anything but that. (Maaaaaybe 40/80 if it looks tasty. Maybe.) Questions follow --

1) I'll be playing for a short while on Friday night, then the lion's share of the afternoon / evening on Saturday (into early morning). Any reason to go anywhere but the Bike? I've picked up on the vibe that Commerce is rather shitty as a venue, but maybe juicier action in return? Thoughts?

2) Does the 20/40 at the Bike feature a kill? I've heard it both ways.

3) Must-move at the Bike? Or go where you wish, and have fun watching everyone switch tables every 20 minutes?

4) Any other valuable tidbits? I like knowing the lay of the land; feel free to share whatever you might feel helpful.

Thanks in advance for your time if you feel inspired to reply!

1. Not really
2. Half kill
3. There are must moves that feed into the main game.

Just came back from LA.

Stayed at Commerce and it's the best ever for LHE & argue it's not even close.

Regs are beyond atrocious TAG with various leaks PF and postflop.

Fish are beyond comical mix of LAP, LAG, TAP and 1000% of players there tilt like donkeys per three 12+hour sessions.

If you want to befriend props & stay at a nice hotel, Bike seems fine but heard game breaks and is NOT a 24 hour room while Commerce is.

Hi Maka,

Your opinion seems to be in the minority (at least from my cursory analysis), but I'm certainly interested in what you have to say. Yes, I want to stay at a nice hotel; no, I don't want to make friends with props. Looks like Commerce is not terribly far from the Bike, so maybe I'll go check that out. What's their 20/40 structure? Half-kill, kill, no kill? Must-move system? Thanks for the intel!
