Sick river spot 20/40

63s in the big blind. 5 people limp to the sb who raises, I call with 63 diamonds because the players are passive and straightforward + sb is kind of bad. Everyone calls.

Flop 457, two hearts. Sb bets, I raise, mp 3bets, sb calls, I 4b, both call. 3 ways to the turn.

Turn 457 Js. Sb check, I bet, mp calls, sb raise, I 3b, mp calls, sb calls and says "I need help".

River 457 J 4c. Sb bets...

I mean his hand is pretty face up, but it's a big pot. Don't see what he could be betting here that I beat.

You really only beat AA/KK that thinks you've just been counterfeited. I see this infrequently in pots with multiple bets on multiple streets but given that they're plugging away preflop against 5 limpers they may reward you. There's not much to do but cry and call.

+1 and it's not even close in my opinion. Pot's too big on river.

Fur coats. Call. But if MP raises and SB 3-bets, a fold is fine.

As played it looks like SB has JJ, but he may have spazzed with AA on the river. I’d call one river bet.

Re: Sick river spot 20/40

Three are three key words in this thread. The first is "pretty" as in "his hand is pretty face up. As opposed to his hand is literally face up. You're getting a zillion to 1, or 23.5 to 1, or somewhere in between those two, call, maybe he's have a stroke before he can turn over his cards. I've seen it happen.

The other two words are "fur coats." Lawdude has 10,305 posts so he/she might remember the actual post that introduced said fur coats. It remains the single greatest post, except for David's reply to it, in 2+2 history. I'll let others elaborate.

I'll tell you one thing, fur coats passed through my mind when I called.

I know the gist of it (dont fold good hands on the river in huge pots) but what exactly is the fur coat thing?

In case anyone is interested in results, he did have JJ's. Guess that's one way to win with them. LOL

I liked my call, and still do, just wanted to make sure it was all completely standard and thought it was a funny hand.

Not sure I agree with that. Our price is good but our relative position is terrible and equity/equity realization is still a thing.

After 5 months of quarantine I'll call no look though.
