I am doing my taxes. It usually takes 20 hours. I would happily swap that 20 hours to you for 20 hours of your losing sessions. Losing at poker isn't as good as winning, but it's still better than 98% of the alternatives.

100/200 went out of business which was basically the only reason i was putting effort into going there and playing throughout the week. its easier/more profitable to sit in bed and play 8/16+ online than it is to go the 10 whole miles to the casino to play 40/80. the only downside is that live is a lot more fun but then i remember all the times i sit there drinking until i cant read my cards any more or get sick from nasty casino germs or make myself morbidly obese from buying too many girl scout cookies and i realize that live isnt really thaaaaaaat much better.

btw can we go to zenbu this wk plz?

At this point, isn't the opportunity cost of 20 hours worth just paying a tax professional to do it for you?

If I can find one extra deduction/expense etc, that nets me a couple thousand, it's worth it. The professional doesn't know what my credit card expenses and checking account transactions mean.

The ATM charges a fee, and is restricted to $500. I buy gift cards, you can get $1,000 per day with no fees.

And if I need more, the sweet spot on credit card transactions is $5,000, the fees are about 2%. Above that it's 3%, and below that it's as high as 4-5%.

I would make a guess that if that is the case then one of you is not very good at your job.

ouch. thats still steep. a $100. it should be a flat fee like $4.95 regardless of the amount you withdraw. and they just bank on volume. the majority of people there play slots, blackjack, and lowstakes poker. so id imagine most transactions there are going to be for $200 or so.

its going to take you an hour to make back that $100. plus you might not be in the right frame of mind if you have to withdraw $5000. i think anytime you head to that ATM, you should take a couple steps more and head out the door.

those $100 fees sure add up by the end of the year. if you have to use the ATM once a month, thats $1200 youre saving right there.

Generally standing up during a hand indicates a strong hand, so the fact that you had risen preflop might make me put in less bets on the turn since he can easily think you have KK.

in b4 bout tree fiddy.

9 handed $20-$40.

I look down and I have K K in sb.

2 limpers, I raise, bb (drunk & playing every pot and winning) & btn (drunk guy is killing him, calling everything, just lost a huge pot to me with 2nd pair betting into me the whole way) call.

flop 6 9 7

i bet, bb calls, btn calls.

turn K

I bet, bb folds, btn pops it, hero ??

how many bets does it take you to start thinking that you may be behind ??

No, I actually use a tax professional to file my returns and do all the calculations, but first I have to categorize all my expenses properly. He doesn't know if some computer equipment i bought last year was for the company I was consulting for, poker, my own business, or just personal use. And he doesn't know that I negotiated a direct stock sale with the director of a public company, or the price, it's just listed as if I took out the certificates on my brokerage statements. And some of the basis for my positions goes back 4 or 5 years to different accounts, some needs to be been adjusted for large one time dividends, etc. It's easy to miss or mis-understand just one of these things if you didn't live the year, and are just a grunt getting paid per hour by a tax firm to read a bunch of boring brokerage and CC statements, and that one thing can be very costly.

I've also found if you let your tax guy do all the work, they'll sometimes claim things that reduce your taxes slightly but are big audit red flags, those I prefer not to claim.

If he has been going ape**** with 2 pair or less in the past, and he has 10 bets or less, I am raising until he cries uncle or gets all in.

If he has been fairly tight with his raises, I am concerned after he 4 bets my 3 bet and probably call down from there (unless the board pairs LDO).

41 + 14 doesnt always have to equal 55. with microwave math, its probably more like 50.

I don't see how that's any different than what surfdoc said. Assuming the guy's "job" is to maximize your EV on tax filing (deductions - risk of audit and all that jazz).

To put it another way, if you believe you are more confident in what tax stuff will give you deductions, what will minimize your audit risk, and how to handle the complex stuff you mentioned, why pay the guy at all?

You may have missed your family or your friends, I dunno. How are we supposed to know who you missed while you were away?

When I'm in another country (unless it's Japan, which I've never been to) I miss sushi. And Quiznos. But I always miss sushi.
