Following the action of hands I'm not in is the only thing that keeps me from getting bored at the poker table. I have an almost OCD-like need to correct every single dealer mistake no matter how small.

It's called best of both worlds. I have financial analysis software that only runs on windows, and play poker on windows so I can use Holdem Manager. Everything else I do on Mac. My new Mac even set itself up for me so I didn't have to setup anything, email accounts, everything matched old mac.

Re: March Low-Content Thread

ugh i am so frustrated. that should be a tip off to skip this post if you don't want to here the struggles of some live lagtagfish...

its the 10th of the month and i am already up ~15k at 40 and stuck ~20K at 60 (-11k today, and yes its only 3pm, in one of the best tables i have ever sat at). i feel like such an absolute phony of a professional, i am on a ~40k "downswing" my last 8 months or so of 60 (less than 10% of sessions are played here probably). over this period, and throughout my career, i have been a >1BB/hr (slightly so) winner at 40/80 (total sample ~2k hours). i can't explain the difference without chalking up a lot of it to variance. still my bankroll hit six figures in late 08 and i haven't ever been able to grow my bankroll or give myself a raise because of the money blown on 60, the greatly lowered volume that comes in the wake of me getting dreamcrushed in the 60, and my stock market losses. also, but to a much lesser extent, tournaments, random gambling, and failing to budget properly has held me back.

long and the short of it is i feel like i have been stuck in purgatory, way too good to not make a living and go broke, but not able to ever make progress. i don't have to be a breakout hot shot kid playing white chips either. if i could just get back to having a positive winrate in the sixty and work on that i would be satisfied (for the time being at least).

i understand the peter principle but i just down see how my winrate between two half-limits in the same casino could have a gap >1BB/hr or even .5BB/hr.

tempted to become a poorman's victor and leave while i still am within striking distance of my all time high bankroll and before it becomes apparent i am a total phony-loser-degenerate who can no long beat anything sufficiently to earn a living...

Re: March Low-Content Thread

honestly its just rly hard to improve your life position playing live 40 or 60 unless you are the biggest life nit ever and never spend money. except if that describes you youre prob too nitty to win a lot anyway. any1 telling you otherwise is living in a delusional fantasy land where they forgot that they had a 50k bankroll and took it to 400/800 and won a million dollars. pretty sure i have one of the higher 40 to 1/2 winrates here and its not exactly like im rolling in money, i certainly cant play bigger than 1/2 live or 30 online comfortably and even that hurts to lose 50+ bets

i wouldnt worry about the runbad the comm 40 and 60 are jokes its just random if ur crushing >3k hrs in the 40 theres no way u arent sklansky crushing the 60 if ur playing even remotely the same poker

and id like to congratulate crazy mike on winning 22k of my dollars today playing omaha. i won 3k yest, was winning about 5 to start today then got stuck 14 then in our 2nd sess i got +4 pretty fast then ended up lsoing 8. you win im defeated wont be playing you again for a while. maybe some day ill follow my "never play you again" strategy but since i honestly have no idea how you beat me its really hard to not keep playing. rly happy that my biggest online loss is like 2-3x bigger than my biggest win now and that i have to win this 22k back playing mostly 8/16 to 15/30 weeeeee. honestly i should just give out my screen name and if you see me playing a game other than limit holdem 5/10 to 1000/2000 i send you $500. id be about 50k richer if i had never played crazy mike, like 100k richer if i never played >2/4 mixed games and about 400k richer if i didnt spend so much money on dumb ****. at least the money i spend on dumb stuff brings me happiness sometimes.

*edit*
olive gardens sorta gross but i just saw a commercial for their "pansotti" ravioli and boy do they look delicious

I suppose that bolding the mangling of English w/ a would be inappropriate because English might not be his first language?

sub 500 but not by a ton. really hard to get hours when you get your teeth kicked at a higher than normal limit like i have. i try to cherry pick times when the 60 looks good, then i play like 25-50 hours and lose 5-10K rinse, repeat every month or two for like a year and change or so. even though i am a complete stats geek my records are awful due to a hard drive failure and a couple cell phone accidents. totals are like 90%+ accurate but hours are spottier esp for my non-core games (most hours lifetime have been at 20/40 and 40/80) which is why i don't state my 60 loss rate. esp since when i came to LA in late 07 i was used to poker tracker and never played live so my first few months i didn't note with much precision how many hours i played (i'd just say day/half-day).

How often is your A-game/B-game/C-game showing up in the 60? When you lose?

Also, I use google docs to track my hours, so I can update it from my phone or any computer and not have to worry about losing it.

yea no excuse for not using google docs or uploading my spreadsheets regularly...

i am like any other grinder type. don't really tilt but when on an extended downswing its silly to not think the stress affects you. i take adderall for 100% of 60 sessions and only like 10% of 40 sessions so there is some argument for me playing better there (it helps a ton imo). but i have to conclude the 60 game is in my head at least somewhat at this point and i must level myself too often. this is a big reason i take a ton of time off from the 60. its not just financial reasons, i don't trust myself to not be compromised after having multiple losing sessions in a row, so if i drop 8k, 90% of the time i am going to wait several weeks or at least until i have won like 100BB at 40 to rebuild confidence before i give it another go.

english is my first and only language and i am actually fairly bright (not to be egotistical) but i am awful at writing/typing. i can't turn a stream of consciousness into words without doing weird dyslexic-like things like substituting filler words for one another. that for there, where for would, weird stuff that makes no sense. i don't get it why my brain works like that with words but i am pretty embarrassed by it which is a big part of why i lurked this forum for so long and why i studied stuff i am actually good at like mathematics and economics in college.
Not you, but now I will examine your posts more closely in order to nit-pick and poke fun! I thought it was clear that I was referring to the OP of that thread w/ his 'weather, bearly and except', it makes me sad, actually.

i've always admired you because even though i don't know you that well you seem very similar to me, to the point where we could be brothers or something, except you are a rockstar poker player whereas i am more of a little grinder ***** who doesn't take many shots, rarely pushes his limits, and sticks his head in the sand and backs down to fewer hours/lower stakes at the first signs of being in over his head.

i don't have days online like yours above, nor do i jump in big mix games, play nontrivial non holdem games etc. while many times you do so on a whim seemingly.

another guy who comes to mind who strikes me as similar is Roc. i know him even less but based on what i know he is probably even more extreme.

i wish i had a little more of that in me. i feel like if i did i would have hit the party poker era so much harder rather than multi-tabling 3/6 and 5/10 with a silly multi thousand BB br like i did.

Re: March Low-Content Thread

id have a lot more money if i never took shots! i stick my head back in the sand when something bad happens too just that im a really stupid ostrich so as soon as i pull my head out of the sand i put it right back into the oven. i used to be a lot more nitty and id always sell pieces of myself i dont think ive done that for a while mostly just bc i figure if im picking a good spot i may as well be able to completely benefit from it, plus it will stop me from playing bigger out of boredom just bc its "bigger" when in reality im playing half of myself ina 2/4 mix game that im a smaller favorite in than a 1/2 holdem game. surprisingly having all of my action has worked out well. most definitely not a rockstar (i am in my mind tho), the majority of my play is live 40/80.

god willing i wont have another online day like this since its borderline impossible for me to ever win 22k (id guess my top 10 wins are bigger than my top 10 losses before today). or at least if i do it will be when i play bigger than like 30 as my biggest game so at least im not permaburied.

tyler have we ever met btw? you seem surprisingly smart and normal for some1 that plays live lhe and i dont remember too many ppl like that at commerce aside from like nice jeff and a couple others.

Re: March Low-Content Thread

Nobody here has his head buried in the sand deeper than me. I've never had a run like this in 10 years so I'm riding it out at 8-16 (I've always dropped down when I run bad). It's been such a confidence destroyer that I'm not posting in any strat threads for now, in case anybody's been wondering.

Fun hand from yesterday: I finally get a hand to play! UTG limps, I raise AKo UTG+2 get 200 callers, flop Q-J-10, UTG bets, I raise, everybody else folds, I lose to UTG's J-9o, fml. This has been going on for 3 months.

btw: Does Adderall work that well and does it eff up your head? I see my doc tomorrow and can ask for it it I have a good excuse which reminds me: What symptoms call for Adderall?
