Re: March Low-Content Thread

Started a new job today. No more than four hours into my day today some guy on my team starts talking about poker on the phone with another team member of mine. Oh jeez...

Pretty sure its going to be good for a few lols. From the side of the convo I heard it was like "yeah bad beats he had JJ, lost $18, not my night...soul crushed, yada yada"

Re: March Low-Content Thread

Just got home from my trip. My goal was to not have the Oscars spoiled for me so I could watch them on DVR Monday night. So all Sunday evening, though I was wearing a production headset, I told those in my ear over radio that I didn't want Oscar results spoiled. They politely obliged. Then I emailed the office I would be spending all day Monday in and told them I wanted it to be an Oscar spoiler-free zone. I went to the Vegas airport and had my iPod in and my head down. Never saw any mention of Oscars on newspaper headlines or heard them from passersby. Got from the L.A. airport to work with no issue, through the whole day spoiler-free. Then I got home, mission accomplished, and turned on my TV to watch the show.

I forgot to set my DVR.

I'm a movie geek, and even if I did have the results spoiled, I would have wanted to see Alec Baldwin & Steve Martin, see stuff like the Christoph Waltz acceptance speech, some of the montages they cut together, etc.

Mother effer. I almost got mad reading that and it didn't happen to me. I go through this all the time with sporting events - particularly football games. Same obligation (particularly towards the end of the NFL season or into the palyoffs) comes up and there's an Cowboys game on Saturday night. I set the Tivo and start pretty much every conversation of the night with "if you know the score of the game, please don't tell me".

I made it through an entire weekend once and the day I was about to return home (to watch the game) I get a text from my nephew that was simply "Cowboys :-("

Re: March Low-Content Thread

very 1st hand when i sit down to play

i get dealt KK in like UTG+2, i raise and get two coldcallers

flop Td9d6d

i bet, get one caller

turn K

i bet, he calls

river 6h

i bet, he raises, i 3bet, he calls, he had TT

how do i not get at least two more bets on the river?

next hand i get quads with 88

then when its my big blind i make a boat with T7 on a T73 4 T board vs Tx and 56

good way to start the session?

And we have another Poker Darwin Award candidate.

Random afterthought to the AZ boys: Where's the fearless feline that roams the sun-baked sand? I haven't noticed him posting recently and I'm kinda gettin' worried that he's not gonna join us for dinner at camp next month.

Also, another prominent mslhe poster may be joining us. He has to get a permission slip from the SO before he can commit, tho. I really hope he makes it 'cause I'm pretty sure I can teach him how to handle these sticky situations where women try to preclude our "good, clean fun."

Checking text messages at a time like that is a rookie mistake. If it's an emergency your phone will ring; otherwise, ignore all communication until said football game has been viewed.

I love it when a plan works this well.

Couple limpers to me and I limp 89s, there's a raise behind, a coldcall, and a call from the BB. We're 5 handed to the flop of AT7 with two suits. It checks to the preflop raiser who is directly to my left, he bets, 1 call, and the BB raises, one of the limpers calls, and I now 3-bet. Both guys fold behind me giving me the button. Turn is a J.

And here are the differences in how you can run...

Running good: You win the large pot and someone has AJ...
Running average: You miss the turn, and check behind, and miss the river and fold.
Running bad: You are up against KQ and a set and lose many bets.

Re: March Low-Content Thread

I just loved that I had so many reasons for the flop raise - free card play, straight equity (if they all call and hold certain hands), creating dead money, buying position, etc. It felt like poker success even if I lost the hand. Not losing made it even better (BB had AT for extra fun).

srsly I don't get it. if i'm watching a steeler's game on even 20 minutes of DVR delay i turn off my phone, my computer, and my girlfriend's phone. if there is an emergency i will not be the one to provide medical care.

The manual is pretty bad, written in the classic "the 'save' button Is for saving and the cancel button is for canceling" genre where it elaborately restates the obvious but rarely addresses important topics that aren't simple or easy to understand.

No detailed discussion on the stats and how they are calculated, only a cursory and confusing discussion of the hand range editor's functionality, etc. The HUD functionality is awesome, but the apps interface is a puzzle, with no rhyme or reason why reports work differently in different tabs.

hitting a one-outter in a killpot that gives another guy two pair on a non-threatening board is fun
