Not that I've ever seen. Most of the rooms are smaller than a typical casino. The only limit I've seen is on mixed games.

Disappointing, I've heard the NL games there are absurd to say the least

With live poker seeing a resurgence, can we somehow compile an updated national list?

I'd be willing to make some phone calls.

I wonder if there's some good live games in random cities. I'm traveling a lot and would like to jump in a game.

That's a very old list quoted above. Diamond Lil's has been closed for at least 5 years.

Probably belongs in the micro forum but this one is more active.

After getting to play in LA on vacation, I’m interested in traveling to play more LHE on say a 2-3 times per year basis. Looking on bravo, though, it seems the game is even more dried up than it used to be? I’m looking at 8/16 up to 20/40, is LA really the only spot that spreads enough tables where you might find a good game?

Traveling to LA isn’t the worst thing in the world, but I remember places like Talking Stick and The Orleans having a lot more mid-stakes tables running just 7-8 years ago.

Are you doing the search by stakes, then? (That's the only effective way I've ever found to use Bravo beyond just looking at some specific cardroom.) I too have been doing some Bravo voyeurism the last few weeks. Here are some general observations and we can compare notes.

I wouldn't call it dried up relative to say 2018 or 2019. Relative to 2010, sure, absolutely dried up. LA is obviously the epicenter but here are some other locations with fairly consistent
action:

  • Bellagio, of course. Pre-COVID I found the 20-40 game to be pretty tough during the WSOP though.
  • Fortune south of Seattle isn't on Bravo but still has daily 20-40 action you can track easily.
  • Talking Stick. Various limit games around these stakes, some LHE, some Big O iirc, some mixed.
  • Canterbury Park, Twin Cities. Ditto about various games. Seems to have 8 or 20 LHE action most days.
  • Atlantic City - Phila. axis, especially the Borgata. Various stakes. Weekends obviously heavier.
  • Black Hawk in Colorado has a pretty consistent 30-60 half kill. (Kill to 45-90? 50-100?). Bigger than you said but worth noting.

And then there are various one day a week games in the 15-30 or 20-40 neighborhood: Tunica; Turning Stone (central NYS); St. Louis area; Chicagoland; I think maybe Kansas City?

If you're willing to play mixed games, there are a few other possibilities including LHE. In Detroit they call it the 15-30 round-by-round (RxR): LHE and LOH. Naturally the LHE plays much tighter, and LOH is a very high-variance game, but still.... worth knowing about. I've seen that mix another place or two in the Midwest. I've seen HORSE show up too.

If any of this interests you in particular I'll share my notes.

I have heard the Colorado game is totally dead.

What is LOH?

Dead as in a terrible game or dead as in doesn't run? They're posting something as 30-60 half kill hold em at Monarch Black Hawk, multiple days a week, 1 table running. I have no first-hand knowledge. (Wait times for NLHE tables appear very long, in case someone wants to make a trip there.)

LOH = limit Omaha high. Fun but the highest-variance cardroom poker game that I know of, relative to a good player's edge.

A poker pro I am acquainted with moved away from Colorado within the last few years, and someone else who knows him better told me it was because that game died.

It could be that it just doesn't run as often though, or maybe it came back to life.

I played 20/40 at Artichoke Joe's earlier this month on a work trip (have been trying to play as much as I can recently after a 3.5 year hiatus) and found the game to be pretty good. They had two full tables going on a Tuesday night. My sense is that Bay Area LHE is not in great shape generally but I was pleased to find at least one place to play MSLHE.

That reminds me, isn't the Oaks LHE still comparatively active, even if diminished? I think I last played there in Dec 2021 or so and the 6-12 was just fine. I don't know if they still go frequently at 15-30 or higher.

I also wonder about Bay 101, since that used to be the "card barn" for LHE in the South Bay area. Is LHE still healthy there?

Talking Stick used to be fantastic but it is starting to die out significantly. I don't play there often but my last couple trips there was only one 20/40. I remember there being 3 and sometimes 4 games going not too long ago. They started a 3 game mix which has taken several players. Also I noticed several 20 regs now playing 8/16. I guess 20 lost a few players too bannings. I think they also lost a few people during Covid. They also sometimes start a 40/80 game which ends up breaking the 20/40 game. Then shortly after the 40 game will break. If they start a second game you better hope you were high on the list because it's gonna break soon. No limit has also taken away a few players. Also, good luck predicting when the games will start. They used start at around 9am and now it can be anywhere from 11-3. 8/16 will usually have one or two games going. It's slightly less fragile than the 20/40 game.

I'm hoping when they move to the new bigger poker room it brings in some players. They are talking about hosting some big time tournaments which should bring in some side action.

I thought TS's limit games were primarily damaged by the legalization of NL games.

Talking Stick LHE at the 8, 20, and maybe 40 levels looks reasonably solid on Bravo. Certainly nothing like 10-15 years ago but no LHE games are. And yeah by solid I mean looks like one game running most days.

Probably just differing expectations since I've now moved to the Midwest where the local NL/PLO parlors won't typically have anything limit, not even a 4-8 game.

The games at Talking Stick were great as recently as a couple years ago.

NL did wreck the limit game in Blackhawk.

The limit player pool at TS used to be large but an older crowd. I think they have lost a decent amount of people due to old age. I think NL has had a little effect on the game. A lot of the really bad regs seem to be missing as well. They may have gone broke. Unfortunately, The limit player pool doesn't replenish like NL. Also, you never know when the game will go these days. I wonder if this has dissuaded some people.

As I said in another thread, the only LHE at the Oaks is 6-12. Good game, and the high rake is beatable.

LA places I frequent:

Commerce 20, 40, and 60 every day with multiple tables. 20 and 40 typically run 24/7.

Bike 20 only with multiple tables usually 24/7

Gardens 20 only. One main game and 1 or 2 must moves. Mostly 24/7.

I haven’t been to Hustler in years but from what I hear they have a 25/50 and sometimes a 50/100. Hollywood Park I think has 15/30.

Hi all,

I've been a consistent winner at 20/40 and 40/80 LHE at Borgata and the Maryland casinos when they have those games over the last five years or so. I am going to LA for a work trip, but will have time to go Commerce and want to take a shot at higher limits. I have about 6k to work with and am only going for a night. First question, would you all recommend 60/120 or 100/200? I know I'd basically only have one bullet to buy in for 100/200, but this is not my entire roll and I have no qualms just losing it if things go badly, this really is just a shot. But if the 100/200 is much tougher than the 60 I'll just do that. However, if they are similar I might prefer the 100 just to try out such an absurdly high (for me) limit. Also, which day out of Tues, Wed, or Thus would be the best to go for the action? I know the 100 doesn't go every single day so I want to pick a day where it is most likely. Thanks in advance for any help.
