Villain is generally TAGgy, occasionally checks back turns, but pretty deliberate about where and when he bets.

Villain raises UTG, folds around to me in the big blind with JTo. I call.

Flop comes JT8r

I c/r and villain calls.

Turn is an Ace bringing a heart draw. I check(?), villain bets and I call(?).

River is a 9 putting a four card straight on the board. I check, villain bets, and I?

KQ is certainly in his range, as are Ax, but I don't think he turns his Ax into bluffs on the river. Or from his POV, most things I c/r'd on the flop should have 'got' there save KJ, KT, and a few random combos.

I’d certainly call river. Turn play is probably a xr.

At game speed I would bet the turn and if raised call down hoping they had AK or AQ, but it would probably usually be KQ (or AJ/AA). Had you bet the turn, raising the turn in their spot with just a pair of aces seems a bit ambitious considering you C/R'd flop and bet that turn card. So it would really put you in a tough spot with a hand you don't want to be folding. It also lets you see if the river counterfeits you. Legit hands you're ahead of like AK, AQ, KK, KJ etc all have decent outs and are all tempted to bet your hand for you on the turn. So this play might be pretty perfect here considering these advantages. I don't suppose you were planning to C/R river blanks to squeeze extra value from AK/AQ? Would be perfect if that worked out.

Turn seems close between b/c and x/r. However, after reading Sam's post I'm liking the 'x/c, x/r most rivers line'.

You should probably x/c river regardless of what you did on the turn.

[xc, xr river] is too risky. We save a bet if a one-card straight / pair counterfeit comes. But, that also works against us. If villain has A-rag, we *miss out* on the bet if a one-card straight comes. Villain can also have hands like {JK, JQ, J9, T9} that were free showdown river unless they improve.


Re: river
Against typical unsophisticated live players, I like an exploitative river fold. Most players do not think about turning pairs into bluffs, and don't vbet worse hands.
