TO THE FLAMINGO! (3k Post) TO THE FLAMINGO! (3k Post)

Having not been on the forums in quite a while, yesterday I noticed that my post count was very close to 3,000. I wasn’t sure what do to for the 3k post, so a text back from BBB encouraged me to write a TR from last Vegas to get everyone pumped for this Vegas.

This particular chain of events occurred on the third or fourth day of last Vegas. I spent the day grinding the $1500 HORSE only to get knocked out 8 hours into day 1, around 8pm or so. With a moderate amount of salt in hand, I drudgingly returned to the Babarhaus to find Jesse888 and burnsabre starting their night off with a plentiful amount of alcohol. I began cooking and retelling some hands with Jesse and burnsabre, pouring some scotch to begin catching up to them.

With a shot of scotch on an empty stomach, I caught up quickly. We began talking about plans for the rest of Vegas when Jesse mentioned going to the Orleans to play some 8/16 or 15/30. burnsabre, who’s probably touched more titties than live poker chips, gave the eeew live pokers look, which sparked an idea. I suggested playing some lol-low limit holdem with an egregious buy-in. I looked at Jesse, and saw the cogs turning—I could see the rally window opening.

”TO THE FLAMINGO!” I yelled, aggressively pointing my arm in a general direction. “TO THE FLAMINGO!” Jesse echoed, and burnsabre giggled in agreeance. And so began our adventure to the Flamingo.

We arrived at the Flamingo where, in the parking garage, we decided on the terms of our endeavor. 2/4 LHE, $1000 minimum buy-in, 90/90 minimum VPIP/PFR, and we had to talk like eastern European limit grinders. “Why you bet? You bet, I call; you check, I check” etc. Given his extensive live pokering, Jesse had a rather compelling accent that kept us chuckling all the way to the poker room. Along the way, Jesse hands me a roll of $2k to cover mine and burnsabre’s BR for the night, as neither of us had cash.

Walking up to the board, there are two tables of 2/4 running but with no seats. We all get on the list when the hostess offers us seats 5, 6, and 7 at a 1/2 NL game. We buy in for $200 each, and crash the table with 3 all-ins in four hands. They were all semi-legitimate all-ins, mind you, and I think I stacked Jesse with AJ on a xxxJ bet/call x/ship flop-turn action. I think he had nines?

After an orbit of lol no limit we get called to the same 2/4 table. I get seat 9, Jesse seat 2, burnsabre seat 6. We go to the counter to get our chips and I ask for $1k in blue, to which the chip runner says the standard “you know this is a limit game, right,” and I confidently affirm my decision. Just before the runner helps me ferry ten racks to the table, I hand an increasingly-inebriated burnsabre $1000 in cash. Noting his current state, I turned to a less-drunk Jesse, and said “Jesse, no matter what happens tonight, you have to remember that burnsabre owes me $1000.” Jesse nods in affirmation and I head to my seat.

Initial stack, burnsabre looking normal

A petrified table of 2/4 tourists looks upon my 1000 blue chips in puzzlement, and after the first hand they realized what was going to happen. burnsabre, Jesse, and I began steamrolling the table with three bets and four bets on most streets, value betting our hands with impunity. Some asked immediately for a seat change, while others stayed around for what would be my best $/hour session for 2016.

But there was one believer. Kevin. Kevin was a heavy set man from northern Illinois, with a beard, a magic the gathering t-shirt, and a general look that screamed World of Warcraft grinder. Kevin looked at my tower of 1k blue chips, pointed and noted “that’s ****ing awesome”.

Enter player 4. Kevin joined in on the 90/90/60 debauchery, helping us cap, straddle, and check/raise nearly every hand. At one point, Kevin was first to act on the flop, and threw out a smoke bet before the board was out, to which I confidently put out a smoke raise with 86s. Another hand, which Jesse loves telling the story to, was when, after three bets on the flop and the turn multiway, I confidently donked out on the river bottom two pair on a 489J5 board into an Indian man in seat 4, who had AJ and called. As Jesse will recall, “you just donked out like the world didn’t matter, won the pot, and promptly sent that guy away from the table on monkey-tilt.”

With the Flamingo being a Caesar’s establishment, the cap was five bets, to which we made it five bets frequently pre-flop. At some point in the night, we began straddling, and the remaining 2/4 tourists were content with where the game had gone, and joined in on playing every hand with us. In one particular straddled pot, it was five bets to our friend Kevin, who was on the button. As he prepares to put his $10 in, the dealer reminds him—and, the rest of us—that because the straddle was on, the cap was six bets. With twelve chips in hand, Kevin slowly looks up from his cards with a puzzled, inquisitive look and uttered “putting a sixth bet in? …that’s arcane!” An increasingly drunk burnsabre, Jesse and I erupt in laughter, and Kevin promptly throws in $12.

The game went on much longer than we had expected, and by 3am we were still playing. Laughably, the other 2/4 table broke before ours, despite sending half of our players to play over there. Some of the salty 2/4 regulars that had originally left our table returned with a disgusted look. At this point, I’ve made a tower six levels high, with an seventh level started. Meanwhile, our resident online pro was stuck for $600 and incredibly drunk. At one point in the night he actually attempted to tighten up and play normal, but he kept losing, buying in for $100 at a time like a fish, which Jesse and I found beyond entertaining.

End stack, burnsabre's beer sideways, chips in disarray

By 5am, it was time to go home. I had tapered off my drinking because burnsabre and Jesse had not, and I had driven the circus to the game in the first place. We cashed out our chips and Jesse—drunk but could walk—and I escort burnsabre—drunk and stumbling—to the garage. On our way home, the rally window almost opened again when Jesse suggested going to the strip club. But, that window came crashing down, and we continued to return home. Just before we got back, Jesse received a text from Dale that said “I’m glad I didn’t go to Vegas. I bet you’re just waking up with a pounding hangover and are regretting your decisions last night.” Jesse snap responded, “joke’s on you, I’m still drunk and I haven’t gone to sleep yet.”

We all promptly fall asleep at the house. Around 2pm, Jesse and I are both up, and on first contact Jesse affirms that he remembers that burnsabre owes me $1000. We start prepping a meal when burnsabre comes down a few minutes later. Clearly hung over but no longer drunk, burnsabre exclaims, “hey guys, I think I actually made money last night! I’ve got $400 in my pocket!” The sudden transformation from happy to lol-disgust was palpable when I slowly told him, “uhh, yeah… you owe me $1000.”

TL;DR went on a heater at Flamingo 2/4 playing 90/90, watched an online pro lose 300 BB, 9/10 would do that again this Vegas

that and after barrelling bottom pair mw over all three streets and losing, someone asked him what he was thinking to which Kevin replied: "...well I had to bet it for value"

This sounds like a standard night with 2p2ers circa 2006. Except it would be 4/8 with 7-8 of us and one or two local grinders who were licking their chops but invariably ended up going home busto and super tilted.

Glad to see at least some of you still know how to play live poker!

Me and a two friends used to do this in the '05-'07 time period at Imperial Palace's 2/4 game. Straddle w/ 2 dark raises preflop when we were all sat in a row.

My first year at wsop we got a 3/6 mix game going that consisted of awesome games like "second best holdem" (where the 2nd best hand wins the pot) and other craziness.

I remember being starstruck by the legendary 2+2ers like ZOMG. (I still get starstruck when I see ZOMG TO THE FLAMINGO! (3k Post) ) Then some euro sat down and seemed to know exactly how to play all these games that I thought we had just made up on the spot, lol. He cleaned us out.

I never understood the fascination with toying with people at the lower stakes. It just seems like self-destructive. I guess everyone has something.

The fun is in making gambooool with buddies at stakes that won't destroy anyone. "Toying" with people who are there literally just to take advantage of you is a side benefit.

Was kicked out of the Plaza downtown when I friend and I tried to blast away at their 3/6. The locals weren't going to put up with it and eventually the casino manager was there apologetically removing us for "collusion". He seemed to genuinely feel like and ass but felt he had to take care of his regulars. That was probably around 2006
