Re: Dumb Preflop Question

I'm not that confident in those ranges.

Also, I wasn't saying UTG+2 should be 3!ing with that range, just the range I put him on.

I mean given that read I'd cap. But I wouldn't if I wasn't confident in it.

It's only a mistake if you like making money. When people behind me fold AQ vs my 3bets, I start 3betting WAY more. #freeMoney
The more you fold, the more animal I play.

I completely understand this concept. I feel uncomfortable in certain situations against a very, very small number of players. I know it isn't likely to be the best play to fold here. I do make up for it against these 4 or 5 guys by fighting back when I do end up in the pot with them as they give me more respect, as they should.

Be careful thinking you "make up for it" by being aggro when you do enter the pot.

Since your range has such crushing equity vs mine, I will simply adjust by mostly checking to your range + just calling w\ hands slightly stronger than normal. (In other words, I'm very concerned with strengthening my checking range since your range is too strong overall)

It's much better to just play correctly preflop, make the cold cap + just be willing to check back lots of flops! Don't feel married to the pot.

I would say most of the better players who replied to the thread said that. I am not one of those people.

Re: Dumb Preflop Question

I cap while popping some head-ache medicine. The kill makes stealing and re-stealing the blinds more attractive. You have to adjust. Also in a kill people with winnings will play tighter making re-stealing more opportune. If the expert knows that some people will even loltastically fold TT here to preserve their winnings avoiding the double-stake. I am folding AJ, and capping 88.

Re: Dumb Preflop Question

Is it really such an obvious cap?

The 2nd spot where it went lag open expert 3 bet, not 4betting seeming like hemorrhaging money. But good utg 9 handed plus good 3 bet makes me a lot less excited about AQ.

I've played like an hour of kill pot poker (8/16 at that while waiting) so I haven't thought about the game much...I guess there is a **** load of dead money out there which is probably why everyone wants to cap that **** and it probably makes at least the 3 betters range quite a bit weaker than normal.

Re: Dumb Preflop Question

I think it is close. It's the dead money and the scared money that makes this a cap for me. Also the cap being at four (you will not be re-raised) is a deciding factor for me.

WRT kills, different players react to it in different ways. It pays to watch closely how people react to the kill. Some people get hyper-aggressive trying to take down the extra dead money or because they want to get their gambolllll on, some players get hyperconservative because the stakes are higher, and some players don't do things much differently.

What stakes do you play? This isn't how people play in kill pot games at all in my experience. Some play tight in kill pots but assuming it's the default is just ridiculous.

It's also fairly ridiculous to post a preflop question in a kill pot with reads on other players but zero description of the kill poster, particularly when the 3-bettor is described as expert.

I only assume that some play tight in kill pots, not all. But, I wasn't given any reads, so I assume there's 1+ that will play tighter. I play 20 games and 40 games. GAMES! Love games. Also, haven't played with a kill except at lower stakes, 8.

It is an interesting question to the OP though, how much "scared money" is in your game? I am assuming there is scared money at all stakes because, well, married types don't want to go home empty-handed everywhere. There are ways of figuring out who's scared to gambul.

Re: Dumb Preflop Question

what about the kill?? There's extra money in the pot and the raisers handrange widens significantly. I would cap.
