Terrible player limps UTG+1. He has a raising range so this is really quite weak. Folded to me in the CO and I raise 9d7d. BTN (who thus far seems like a normal TAG type middle aged Asian guy) 3bets. Blinds fold, UTG calls, I call.

Flop is 986r giving me a BDFD. UTG checks, I donk, BTN raises, UTG calls 2 cold, I call.

Turn Q completing the rainbow. Checked around.

River 7. UTG checks, I lead.

Ya, looks good. On the river, we want to focus on getting value from UTG+1... not worry about BTN's possible TT.

Raising BTF I guess is maybe okay. I think folding is fine too. UTG +1 can easily have you dominated with garbage like A7, K9, Q7s, etc.

I think betting the river is fine. I wouldn’t be shocked if UTG +1 has a Five.

Unless UTG is the kind of weak who plays way too many hands but then gives up easily after the flop, and unless the blinds are very tight players, I think preflop is pretty bad.
Position doesn't mean that much if you have a hand that will never win unimproved.

Who said anything about difficult river spots? The river seems like an easy peasy bet here, way less discussion worthy than any other street.

I think position matters a ton when we don't have showdown value -- bluffing is easier in position than OOP, too. Whether I'd raise 97s here is a function of how bad the limper plays post and how tough the field is behind me. Against someone who will play reasonably well, or where I think I'm going to either get three-bet a lot behind and/or face strong opponents, I just let this one go. It's close enough that I don't think it's worth debating much.

This is opponent dependent for me. A lot of players basically just have an overpair or better here, and UTG's action suggests we probably aren't drawing to all our outs/possibly drawing to a chop with some of them. I'm much more inclined to 3b vs someone who will raise wider on the flop.

Agree with checking turn as played and agree with leading river as played.

isnt flop 3b for value vs a range of overpairs and a loose cold caller? if not seems awfully close. if pfr raises stuff like AT or A7s seems like a slam dunk 3b.
