Really good points NVF. It seems I haven't spent enough time thinking about the exploitative arguments both you and DD are raising using a GTO SB call range. It's counterintuitive, as I don't typically think of playing GTO as being exploitative, but clearly there are points of crossover there where I have some mental blocks. Very interesting and gives me some things to work though. Appreciate the insights.

Makes me happy when these forums still provide real value for players after all these years.

Hi Donkey:

[QUOTE=DeathDonkey;56909922]Nod, makes sense. I just think that many LHE players in these forums treat "call 100% from the BB vs the Cutoff" as "good balanced poker" but the reality is its just an exploitation of the cutoff if he c-bets 100%

I agree with this point. However, and I've played very little limit hold 'em this past year, in the games I've played in the automatic flop bet by the in position raiser does, in my opinion, make this generally the best strategy. However, going back to The Intelligent Poker Player by Philip Newal, he does give some guidelines on when to check back the flop. I follow these guidelines, but I see virtually no one else doing so.

I don't know that a specific example is *always* going to be true, but I would expect some systemic leaks. Most high stakes players are sticky, showdown bound to a fault, make the pot size smaller than they are accustomed to and they will likely be a little too sticky and showdown bound (myself sadly included). Also its not easy to recognize what villains' coldcall range is going to look like and what board textures to be wary of since it just doesn't come up all that often. I would expect most high limit pros to consciously or subconsciously be very good at estimating my 3 betting range pre, but probably not so good at estimating my SB cold call range. Could be wrong.
This is interesting. I haven't thought about a small blind cold-calling range and how it should impact my 3-betting range in this spot. So, I've got some work to do and any more comments are appreciated.

Best wises,
Mason

Just follow what the Euros are doing at +6 max. They seem to be more practical/solving with mixing exploitation and balance.

flop as played it's fine but in position i would have just called and raised most turns. if you think folding is better than calling you have a big problem. even if he isn't bluffing, he can be value betting way worse hands. folding is preposterous.

Hand 2, I like never 3 betting out of the BB in any situation where I'm up a competent player and it's worked well for me. I definitely could be wrong, but I like to protect my weak calling range hands.

Hand 4, I usually would have 3 bet. In a 2/3 structure I would definitely cold call. But now I'm being persuaded by DD and maybe I would try some cold calls in a 2/4 blind structure.
