seeing him open ato would be my license to punish him the rest of the session unless I saw him adjust.
I see good TAGs and LAG/TAGs open ATo from UTG all of the time. I'm certainly not thinking I should try to punish these players. The fact that the only hand I've seen this guy open from UTG is ATo just tells me he not a nit. Until I get more information I'm not gonna try to bully this guy. This could easily be the bottom of his range. I don't know how you are punishing him with 9Ts oop with a third laggy player in the hand.

If he is opening from the HJ or CO and you are in position then go ahead. In this hand I was oop in the SB against his UTG raise. Opening ATo is not tight but it's not necessarily loose either. He may have a reasonable UTG opening range but was getting a lot of playable hands. Until I see evidence that he is truly opening too wide I will respect the position he is raising from.

I typically don't open ATo in an 8 handed game but I don't think it is bad necessarily. My games tend to be very loose and laggy so I will often end up in 4 or 5 handed pots oop that are sometimes 3 or 4 bet. I may be making a mistake by folding it in more normal to tighter games.
