i also think it didn't help the dealers when CA has the minimum wage increase and all the casino's decided to take an extra $1 rake on the river. I'm sure quite a few reasoned the $1 they nomrally tip is now being raked for wages.

Not saying thats correct, but it certainly happens. Where I play its very rare for a dealer not not receive at least $1 even for BB defends and c/f flop.

Go play 8/16 at commerce and you'll see relatively huge tips. Or 4/8. 20/40+ is not considered a bread and butter game for tipping. Most of the regs are actually huge losers with massive leaks and blame the dealers for their woes. However, with the credit comes the blame so it should not be completely unexpected. Dealers don't help their cases either by buying into the superstition and expecting large tokes on big pots.
