The researcher in me hopes this is a natural experiment in the effect of physical pot size in LHE.

So I assume that must play in $25 (purple?) chips, no? So you have a 1/2 chip structure where the adjoining stakes are usually 4/8 and 3/6.

Pretty sure 5/10 chip game.

CAZ used to have a 60/120 game with $10 chips!

Oooh!

/me ponders how hard it would be to talk his Northern Californian wife into moving to LA.

Well that's a fun experiment in the other direction I guess. I used to piss people off in a $5/10 Omaha game by bringing a lot of $1 chips to the table.

Can (kinda) confirm. Never been or played in it, but at the tables this past weekend someone from LA was talking about it, and how it was a red chip game with big pots and lots of chips.

Red or yellow?

(Crazy California colors... I think a few CA rooms have $5 red though.)

Hustler game is definitely 5 chip 10 chip. Their $5 chips are yellow. The only casino in LA that uses red $5 chips is Hawaiian Gardens.
07-07-2021 , 08:43 PM
gah, I even thought about it before I posted it as red rather than 5. In my defense, I just got home from vegas, slept little, and had my 5 hour flight turn into a 10 hour nightmare.

You are forgiven. I think everyone that comes from out of state gets tripped up by the chips colors. Whites are blue and blacks are white lol

By far the biggest concern are nickels not being red.

On the east coast it seems like mix game action city, every night 80/160, 150/300 and 300/600 mix games going at borgata.
80 mix basically never runs. 80 is o.o.e.

300 only goes in summer if couple extra people around. Although there has been an uptick in the player pool for 150, which is always bbtoe. Plo8. Never hold em. And the rest of drama Archie stuff isn't allowed.

Hold em has been very healthy 2 or 3 tables of 40 going almost daily between parx/borgata. 80 sporadically...

Does Bellagio have props ?

What active mixed games are running then? Does this mean 150/300 runs on occasion or only when the 300 also runs?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what are the bb games in the 150 mix at the Borg?

Am I correct in assuming 150 mix games included in bbtoe are the following?
-Badugi ?
-Badacey?
-Deuce to Seven Triple Draw
-Omaha 8 or better
-Stud 8 or better

Business still looks good at the Bike. At 10:30 PDT they had a 4, 20, 40, 200, and 400 LHE going.

For us peons who don't play that high (and in my case have pragmatically drifted back to NLHEland, kicking and screaming) -- how beatable are LA games at say 40? 100? 400?
07-22-2021 , 04:19 AM
There's only one way to find out

They're both hosted games. I haven't played the 200/400 or bigger game myself but know people who have. My sense is 200/400 mix is way more forgiving, has less variance with split pot games, and generally more friendly. The player pool for the bigger LHE games is relatively small.
07-22-2021 , 10:30 AM
Thanks. Does "hosted game" mean they pay someone to start the game and recruit players, or does that mean they bring in an entire home game with all the seats filled and are hostile to outsiders coming in off the street?

Not that I'm playing those games anytime soon, just curious how the other half lives.
07-22-2021 , 01:05 PM
Closer to the latter. They organize the games and can control who sits and start the games.

Can any of you speak to the type of LHE games expected to run during the WSOP? I'm going there to play live poker for only the second time in, like, 10 years. I see Bellagio runs 40/80 regularly; do higher LHE-only games typically run during past WSOPs? I dunno how to play mixed games. They don't offer such a thing on US-facing sites. These days I mostly grind NL, MTTs and cash, but LHE will always be my first love and perhaps still my strongest game.

If the 30/60 LHE game on Ignition is any indication, there are still plenty of American fish playing this game. It surprised me how soft that game is. The 30 and 40 are tough on ACR though, no doubt.

I might play the LHE WSOP events too. I fondly remember the last time I was in Vegas, in maybe 2010 or something, playing the 10k (or maybe 5k?) LHE and getting sat next to Vanessa Rousso and listening to her regularly talking at me for some reason.

You're saying they spread both 200/400 and 400/800 straight LHE, at 10:30 AM, in 2021?!? Damn! I had long assumed these games either never ran anymore or only ran as mixed games.

Does Commerce still have regular 40, 60, and sometimes 1/2 running 'round the clock? I miss that place.

Yes, that's what was shown on the Poker Atlas live tracker. However, I suspect at those stakes it's almost all traffic taken from the Commerce.
Also I think the Gardens has taken some of the 20/40 action.

It's presently almost 6 pm on a Monday, and Commerce has seven 4/8 kill games, seven 8/16 kill, and no other LHE. There are 4 on the list for 20/40 and one for 20/40 kill, and 3 for 40/80.

I guess the NLHE games are enough to make Commerce profitable, but it's weird to imagine it without a full array of mid-limit games going.

Pretty sure 80/160 runs around the time of the LHE events, but I could be misremembering. Obviously plenty of 20/40 and 40/80 to be had. Prepare yourself for incredibly long lists.

It’s definitely a mix. Bike had regular 40 games going before the pandemic. The 60+ is almost purely commerce players

Played at Bay 101 for the first time last night, smaller room than I'd envisioned and no games between 8-16 and 80-160. Was just passing through town but glad I got a chance to finally visit. No mask requirement but probably 80 percent were masked.

Something utterly insane. One of the former regs in my game told me he played 2000 hours of poker in 2019 while working full time at FAANG. He joked he paid ~$40k+ in time collection.
08-28-2021 , 12:26 PM
If they played that many hours, they likely payed that much in time collection.

("FAANG"?)
