2018 NC/LC THREAD - are we ever going to get a title? 2018 NC/LC THREAD - are we ever going to get a title?

1) Turn that pope into an eligible bachelorette who liberally consumes alcohol when in Vegas, instead of a married man (I think?). Then turn Dinesh into a stalker who takes advantage of drunk women, instead of the friendly and upbeat normal poster that he is. Then re-read their cryptic posts again and you might get a laugh.

2) Brand new account on SwCpoker.eu takes the SN UpswingMixed. He sat/played micro/low I think. But I cant help but think he could've chosen a better SN to play mix games.

Was it jlamma hustling people while waiting for his 25 BTC deposit to clear and simultaneously advertising his mixed game course at Polk's site?

Or was it a possible customer that bought the course and just wants to show his appreciation and pride in his improvement? Either way, it struck me as an odd choice. But on an uncensored site where people pick crazy SN, nothing should surprise me.

3) People in the stud forum were going to pool their money to buy the course, which costs like 1k. Only one person thought to mention that it might be unethical. I wish to know if it is unethical, or if 1 purchase is better than no purchases, or what ethics should govern the transaction.

3 mysteries, each more meaningless than the next lol

,I'll stab at 3. I think it's normal/fine/acceptable. People share all media. Think everyone has their own copy of Mike craps book of tells ?
03-24-2018 , 10:39 PM
Maybe it's just that the price point of 1k is a lot different than a $10 blackjack essay so I thought about it differently. Reading the stud forum thread brought back some nostalgia, as it's something my ethics (philosophy pov) professor in college would've asked us to write a paper about.

So price point makes it less ethical to share it ? Personally don't think price changes things. Also think 1k for anything that doesn't have personal interaction is way to much. Especially for a pretty small niche game.

I've no idea if price point makes a difference. Or whether pooling money to buy it differs from buying it and then sharing it. Idk what governs the ethics of this transaction.

I can tell just from the chapters listed and the page you can see on the screen in the 2 min preview (I didnt buy it), that at least the 2-7 section it presents what seems to basically be a solved version of the game. In the background (88) and different conditions are shown, which I'm assuming refers to when to bluff river in 1-1 or pat-1 spots when in position and other stuff like that, depending on which cards we have already seen and the previous action in the hand. Same when bluffcatching w (22) vs when it's correct to fold some bluffcatchers.

Personal interaction is a waste of time compared to having most/almost all of the common advanced spots covered in detail without having to go back and forth with the instructor. The only time personal interaction wouldnt be less efficient (from time and $ standpoint) is if you wanted to spend an hour or two on just a few very specific spots and nothing else. 102 vids are included and you get access to a private FB group w purchase of the course. Prob covers a lot more than 4-6 hours of Skype.

There's 5 games he covers and most, if not all, are played in almost every mix game, live or online. I wouldnt consider games like OE or 2-7 as 'niche' but maybe they are. I prob mistakenly gave the impression that it was just for stud hi.

I wish he didnt make it, but once he stopped grinding online I guess there's no incentive to hold back what he knows and further kill the games. I'd do the same thing if I was ever 1) really good 2) played mostly online and 3) online games were in their current state. Just like some of the row flhe online crushers have brought their heat maps across the pond to play in CA, some mix guys are playing in bobbys room instead of stars 8g.

Good to hear mate, hopefully they will put it online if they still do the limit streams.

The 40/80 half kill LHE will be streamed on Live at the Bike on Wednesday, April 11th. I’ll be playing the stream.

Kinky.

It means he's going to be playing 40/80 w 1/2 kill fixed lhe during the stream on 4/11/2018. Or he has just invented a new poker phrase, "playing the stream" which could mean something like "playing my rush" or "heat-check time, I'm straddling every hand" or maybe even something kinkier.

I'll go the other way on this. Price point makes no difference. Are they doing something unethical offering their product? Nobody says they are. If it is too expensive, don't buy it. Unless "sharing a membership" is OK, then sharing it is wrong. Poker coaching has been a rip-off for anyone decent offering it forever. They're going up market? If there are no takers, it is on them. Some number of people pooling to buy it is shop lifting N-1 times.

What is getting better at high stakes mixed games worth? Probably a lot. Thus, asking a lot for a course that does exactly that seems reasonable. All the rest of "it differs from buying it and then sharing it" seems like a justification to me.

Is doing stealing their work wrong? Yes. (assuming their Ts&Cs don't include some, buy it and share it with your buddies clause).

Not worth it? Don't buy.

Win all the monies.
03-28-2018 , 06:20 AM
Guys, please don't steal.

If you have a group that's interested in the course then why not contact JDalla and ask if he can offer a group discount?
03-28-2018 , 03:40 PM
The price is more than fair and there’s no need to ask for a group discount imo. If 1k is only 5-10 bets in your avg game and you think it will yield even moderate improvement to your game, it’s a bargain. If it represents too much of your bankroll then I tend to agree w Doug - don’t buy it.

If you have more time than money, then theres plenty of software do the work yourself. When I first start playing 5 years ago I ask someone smart about coaching and they said, “it’s a shortcut. If you do the work properly you will get the same answers. Coaching is just a time-efficient way to pay for those answers.” Anybody can put together a heat map these days.

Maybe it’s not meant for the players in the stud forum who were openly propositioning pooling their money to buy it. They struck me as low stakes players and as such, the cost represented a lot of buy ins. That’s completely understandable. When they were so open about pooling money without even discussing the ethics involved, it seemed a little odd.

A color coded chart, e.g., red-yellow-green, to show where the valuable (hot) hands are.

Playing mixed games is so refreshing. I wish it was spread in the Bay Area.

Hahah ya I thought it was stud specific... is there a link to the book/course ??
04-07-2018 , 11:41 PM
If you click on the slightly constipated looking bearded man in the advertising link above the thread it will take you to the upswing poker site. Then go to 'advanced training' then 'mixed games'. Guy looks like he needs more broccoli.

This forum is the most analytical of the ones I follow. Anyone have thoughts on this?

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features...-infernal-box/

AA or AKs would be my two obvious guesses, but the math (or analytics, or empirics) to prove it doesn't come as easily.
04-13-2018 , 10:47 AM
Limit or no limit ?
04-13-2018 , 11:03 AM
I can't see how it would matter, given the wording of the question. The board is getting dealt out either way.
