When did 6 card Omaha get the name "big easy"? Back in my day we just called it 5 and 6 card omaha. None of this big o or big easy nonsense. I dont even know if big easy is a high or high low game.

I do know that I love pot limit big o and it loves me
07-19-2018 , 03:03 AM
what about "big mitt"

?!?!

But by far the greatest name for 5-card PLO high-low is.....

Spoiler:
Congress.

In Durant, Oklahoma. Seriously, WTF?

i think there should be a new structure for o8 that is 4card when 5handed or less, and 5card with 6 or more players.

Building a computer and bought a motherboard off Amazon. Box arrived slightly bent, and when opened there was no protective wrapping or airbag things around the smaller box containing the motherboard. How can I test out the motherboard to make sure it still works fine? I have no other parts yet.

Probably a different thread or a different forum would be more useful.

I would return it unless you got a really good deal. They are selling used or returned items as new. Seems to be a common problem with Amazon, especially with the third party sellers.

Hey guys. I lurk here a little for entertainment. I hope all is well. Seems like a return to Vegas could be in order at some point. I am semi-retired so pretty easy to plan a few days.

AFAIK you cannot test it without specialized equipment until you plug everything in. MOBOs are too important to take a risk with. Just return it.

I was going to make a doughnutz joke in phunk's thread about adjusting to too many cbets and then wound up on a doughnutz thread and then stalking pokerbob and remember when 2p2 used to be fun even though we were all really bad wrt talking about specific people in a public forum.

And then I found a 10+ year old kahntrutahn post that reminds me of a large portion of the poker related discussions that I've recently had with a variety of friends. And one that I will surely force myself to reread when I need yet another reminder that I should quit mix/limit poker and play only midstakes big bet until I'm ready to transition out of poker. I'll leave it here for anyone that thinks that a full time career as a high stakes limit poker player is something worth pursuing

Reading that thread, I notice that when *I* quit poker, I didn't make an "I QUIT P0CK3R!!!111!!" post, I just stopped playing and started enjoying life more.

I'm thinking seriously of getting back into it. Not LHE though; I'm in training to target NLHE.

(Wait, what am I thinking???)

Alan,
How have you been supporting yourself? Poker was your main source of income if I recall correctly.

Living off of capital. (Which is why I am suddenly interested in getting back in the game.)

Truthfully everything I glean from management lit is that it's better to be a hedgehog than a fox. To maximize win per total hour you're probably best off just throwing yourself into NLHE or PLO for as long as the games are good, and I think the live games will probably be good for the foreseeable future.

(NLHE is more universal but in PLO I suspect the games are much much softer. Opinions?)

But my nature prevents me from being an effective hedgehog. I've seriously studied almost every conventional form of poker at some point. I get a ton of enjoyment from knowing a basic triple draw strategy despite the fact that there's no public TD game within 500 miles. So for me getting to walk in a room and play whatever game looks best, somewhat competently, is sort of a rebate on my -$EV personal preferences. It's not ideal for win--I'd be much better off just moving up at NLHE or PLO--but it fits who I am.

That said I don't understand the gloom and doom around LHE. Obviously it's not the ubiquitous game for new, terrible players to play but I'm pretty sure anyone who studies seriously can beat the softest CA 20/40 games for $30/hr. I understand that many in this subthread are doing better than so perhaps being capped at something under $50/hr equals dead to you. But for those with LHE skills, $30/hr can give you something fun to do to build bankroll and live a modest lifestyle while learning how to beat 5/10 NLHE for more than that. And for those of us who do this as a profitable hobby/side job, beating 20/40 LHE is plenty to be a very positive part of our lives.

tl;dr: If you enjoy limit games and don't enjoy NL/PL then play limit games. If you want to make more money at live poker, probably master PLO.

I guess some of the regs are finally smart enough to figure out the best way to button someone with a 5/BB win rate to straight up play one hand and sit out instead of going the usual 9,7,5,3 combos. Just a warning I am reporting every single time that you doing it to bodog. I don't care if they don't care sooner or later they are going to get this matter check

yeah they won't do ****. there used to be a guy that sat in the mornings and would do the one hand btn to me over and over. he'd wait before starting a new table and change his buy in amount everytime. bovada did nothing.

This button problem seems like an easy software fix if they want to, at least heads up.

In other news, I just saw gun+1 and +2 chop a big pot on T336A board, they each had 73o. Poker is dead...

For anyone in the area, Hawaiian Gardens has a $2200 8game tournament tomorrow starting at 1pm. Tournament sheet lists the games as HORSE+NL+PLO and limit Big O but I believe the Big O will be pot limit. Just a 1 day event with a fairly fast structure. Should be a fun group of folks around to play in it, come on over and check out the best casino in LA.

You’re gonna play a tournament?!
07-25-2018 , 01:47 PM
There's no poker game to play since everyone from my game is either playing the tournament or not coming in because so many are playing the tournament so my choices are to stay in bed, play NL cash, or play the tournament. And I can play NL cash after I bust the tournament in a Big O or PLO hand.

It's also really cool that they're having a mixed game tournament outside of the WSOP that isn't microstakes or a high roller so I'd like to support it.

Speaking as someone who has stopped pretending and is actually getting their ducks in a row to return to the life of a poker pro . . .

Stay in bed. Or go to the beach. Or see a movie. Or . . .
