100% agree.

Rugby is full of pussies compared to the NFL. There was a Discovery show a couple years ago where they took a rugby guy that was supposedly real good and compared impact energy measured several different ways to an NFL player. Get this, they didn't get a defensive end, middle linebacker, or even free safety. They got a CORNERBACK, who's a lighter hitter than anyone short of a qb or kicker. The NFL guy results crushed the rugby guy.

With fewer kids getting into (American) football, the sport that seems to be most directly positively impacted in numbers (at least here in northern CA) is soccer. Basketball is also getting super popular around here, but I attribute that more to the Warriors than anything else.

So maybe we will see more good US soccer players in the future.

News flash: the rugby players don't wear shoulder pads or helmets, if they lead with their heads like NFL players they're never going to make it through a single game. Top level rugby is great to watch, action is essentially nonstop

Wait, so it's not fair to compare the hitting ability of a dude who hits dudes for a living to a guy who plays an endurance sport? Who'da thunk it.

Bah, rugby is the soccer of contact sports.

I'd wish all the football head injury info didn't come out until I was gone and wouldn't have to make any decision. Still got plenty of years to figure it out but I'd like to hope I wouldn't have to tell him "no, you can't play that sport."

I wonder how many fewer kids are playing football in the last 5 years or so. I think basketball and baseball will benefit the most, unless US soccer program gets better. Never been much of a soccer fan, but w the emphasis America puts on sports, I can't fathom how our national team is always bad and there is no decent pro soccer. I think lacrosse looks fun and I wish my high school had a team when I attended. Playing football was awesome though.

Reportedly, youth football at all ages has taken a big decrease. OTOH, your kid has a better chance to make the team!

You guy's don't get it. As was mentioned, the US has 300 million plus people....compare this to Croatia's 4 million. Within this 300 million population is a diverse mix of individuals unlike most countries which are not a melting pot of people. If the mentioned freak athletes were born into soccer, the US would be able to develop and field a super team that was bigger, stronger, and faster than any other team in the world.

There's plenty of people who have a much higher "athlete" stat than LeBron, they just don't have the height and wingspan to be the GOAT basketball player. There's others that are much better suited to athleticism with their feet. You have to be dumb or just trolling to think "best at sport only played by tall people in rich countries with their hands" automatically translates to "best at endurance sport played everywhere with feet and head"
Seriously? "There's others that are much better suited to athleticism with their feet". If the world just started today and athletes had a choice of what game they want to play, do you really think they would choose a game where you can only use your feet?

There is a saying that if a person is good at Chess, they aren't good at anything else. I think this applies to soccer players. However, many NBA or NFL players could transition and do transition to other sports. Why? because they are superior athletes.

Americans going to american.

Soccer is ok but they need to change some things.

1) There has to be a significant amount of blood or broken bones involved or else the faker gets the yellow card.

2) Move back the penalty kick. What is the point the way it is? This is worse than the old extra point in football.

3) Stop sliding every time you kick a goal. Do something different please!

4) Goals should be 7 points instead of 1.

Ok dude, your once-every-four years opportunity to whine and show your ignorance of a game the rest of the world loves has expired.

Please go back to wearing 3 feet thick armor plating and crashing into each other playing handegg or whatever you call it.
07-17-2018 , 01:55 PM
Oh that's right I forgot, outside the folks who actually give up their bodies and brain tissues to play professionally, no adult actually plays handegg. You leave it up to the guys on tv, just like gladiators in ancient Rome.

soccer needs a simple fix. no more draws. do it hockey style. award 1 point for draw then full 3 points if you win it in pk/etra time or whatever. just a few steps away from participation trophies

Exactly. Which is why I want to understand how identifying and capitalizing on those soccer talents can be so dysfunctional that we can't even be 1/75 as good at is as Croatia. Actually even less than 1/75. I'm not exactly asking for two WC semis over the last six tries, just a team that makes the knockouts most times and occasionally goes farther, although I think we have the potential to be a frequent semifinalist and win a couple of WCs before I die.

Granted, Chinese fans have an even bigger gripe, but they haven't been a rich country for the past 125 years like we have. It is remarkable that they plowed so much into Olympic sports, with great success, but not in the most important single sport for most of the world. They've invested a bit more lately. Hiring Bora for 2002 (their only WC) and Lippi for 2018 were good investments, but somehow in 2018 still finished behind Syria and Uzbekistan, which would be like the USA finishing behind Honduras and Panama or someone like that.

India fans have a gripe too but sometimes they crush at cricket so as long as you can beat LOLEngurland in something they care about it's OK.

Lol now you're just turning into a weak troll cuz you realized how dumb you were being. We can all move on now.

I think I wrote this in another forum, but it seems like if they just reduced the size of the field by 30%, the game would be so much better. Faster game, more scoring, etc., it would be more American-style.

They could call it American football.

Just make the goals bigger.
