Will my Mobo take a GPU? Will my Mobo take a GPU?

I have a computer with the following specs, and would like to know if the below GPUs would be compatible with it.

Fujitsu d3230-a1 motherboard
i5-4460
8gb RAM

Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 2GB GDDR5 OC
MSI GeForce GT 1030 2GB GDDR5 OC Low Profile

Basically my kid wants to play some basic fps games (don't know what its called, but it looked similar to counter strike). Says that currently (with no gpu), the fps drops a bit. I used those two gpus as an example because they are <80BGP (~100USD). If there are alternate GPUs in this price range, happy to be recommend them.

Appreicate any help

most likely yes, these cards are powered by the pci-e slot on your board and require no power from the psu via a 6pin cable, which these older pre-builts usually lack

can go up to a gtx 1650 or a 1050 ti and they should work. anything more powerful and you need a different power supply. the GT 1030 is kinda crap for fps games, I suggest you look into the 2 gpus above, they're not much more expensive.

if your pc is an SFF (small form factor), you'l need the LP (low profile) version, otherwise the normal ones will fit

can you tell me what the system is called? model name/number
is it this: FUJITSU ESPRIMO P420?

thanks!

yes it is the p420 - i picked it up from a refurb seller for a very low price! crazy how cheap used desktops are these days. my own computer has the same i5 processor and although i bought it 5 years ago - it still works perfectly.

yep these are fantastic value

if it looks like this then you don't need to look for low profile cards, although those will work too, they just tend to be harder to find

ive just checked the psu, and its a 250w one. after doing some googling this looks like it could be a problem

the computer has a wifi card, 1 ssd, 2 ram sticks atm, and obviously im looking to add a budget gpu.

would i almost certainly need to add a new psu too? if so, what power should i be looking at?

I'm 95% sure the psu can take it
I've put in 1050 and 1050 ti 's in 30+ HP and Dell systems with 220-240w psus
tested a few at the wall, never drew more than 180w under full synthetic load, with games it's less

Some of the 1050ti models require a 6 pin PCIe connector, so be sure that either your system has one available or that the card doesn't require one. GTX 1650 prices seem close to 1050ti prices new on Amazon, so I'd go for the newer card.
I'd recommend getting a card with at least 4GB of RAM to have enough memory for textures for games as framerates tank when onboard RAM capacity is exceeded.

yes, forgot about that

look at the card's specs and at pictures before you buy
if it says 6pin anywhere in the specifications or you see one of those on the card, best avoid

thanks ionutd and headtrauma for the help! i've got some updates. so i ended up buying a rx 550 for £60. mainly because this is what i have in my own computer, and was able to get it new from a uk retailer for what i think was an ok price.

i installed it, and games were reportly showing good fps. however the computer felt slightly slower, and the internet connection was a lot weaker despite showing 5 bars in the taskbar. i removed the gpu, and these problems went away. reading online, it sounds like it could be a psu issue. so i've bought one of these, and will feedback in this thread with the results
