I bought a refurbished computer on eBay, yes I know I'm cheap like that. It runs windows 7 pro but it only has 4GB of RAM. It was working fine when I first started it today but after the windows update it hasn't been doing so well. Anyone know why this could be?

I figured out it was the windows 7 update that really messed up my computer. I did a system restore and now it works fine.

If you suspect it is RAM check the task manager and other ways to verify if there are hw related issues.

since it is was after update you most likely guessed right. I would change now the Win update settings for a little while to prevent the same issue and soon change them back if you wish. Get another 4GB if it is a desktop and you see the mem use spiking and hitting hdd (mr memory is good place to check.)

I turned off the auto-update but for some reason it still is prompting me to restart my computer because it says it downloaded updates. Very frustrating.
So now I turned it so it downloads the updates but I get to say whether they are installed or not, but it still is prompting me to restart my computer so the updates can be installed! I'm confused as to whether my computer will install the updates without me wanting to if I restart my computer.

windows updates are hard to avoid, and you really shouldn't avoid them. how was your computer not doing so well after the last updates?

everything moved very slow, almost impossible to use. I'd rather avoid these stupid updates, it ruined my computer.
