I'm going to build a computer to be used to play videos and games on my tv.
Its 1080p so I'm looking to get the best bang for my buck video card. I'm cheap but i want one that is going to be pretty sweet - turn up that eye candy.

(all prices are in CAD and from newegg.ca and i have already subtracted rebates ect..)

Possible selections:

2x EVGA 512-P3-N841-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB @ $106.99

or

1x SAPPHIRE 100259L Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit @ 196.99

or

2x XFX HD-485X-YDDC Radeon HD 4850 XXX 512MB @ 112.99

or

1x BFG Tech BFGEGTX260896OCE GeForce GTX 260 896MB @ $195.99

The 8800 GTS's are just fine, but the 4850 is superior (moreover, the 8800 is getting dated, and the 9800 is virtually the same as the 8800, whereas the 4850 is more modern and will benefit more from continued driver improvements). The 4870 and a vanilla 260 are roughly equivalent in performance (the 260 probably wins by a little), but dual vids of either the 4850 or the 8800 would beat them by a decent clip (around 30% or more for the Crossfired 4850's vs a single 4870 if I recall correctly). So my recommendation is obviously the Crossfired 4850's for the best bang for buck.

If I were you, I'd also consider two Radeon HD 4770 in CrossFire. I'm not 100% sure on the pricing front. But as of two weeks ago, you could get two 4770s for less than US$200. So they're def cheaper than 4850s.

4770 is somewhere between 4830 and 4850 performance-wise, and dissipates less heat and uses less power than 4850 for sure (4770 even uses less power than 4830 under 3D load, as it's built on a 40nm process vs 55nm for 4830/4850).

EDIT: wow, 4770s seem to be in rly short supply these days. If you can get's 4850s cheaper, go for those obv.

I'd like to get a graphics card but I need to get a new Power Supply Unit first. FML with Dell's integrated graphics and 305 watt PSU.

4890 is better than everything on your list and should be within your price range.
