Got a new mouse around a week ago, worked fine from the minute I plugged it in and has been working fine up until today.

Don't even know where to start, batteries are fine, its switched on and I tried a different usb port so that the drivers etc were installed and set up again.

This is a Tecknet mouse. Cheers.

Could be lots of things including driver issues, but first...

Unplug all other USB devices (particularly any USB port extensions). Ensure the mouse is plugged directly into a motherboard USB port. Reboot. If that doesn't work try rebooting with no USB device plugged in (including the mouse). Plug it in after the machine boots up.
