You (as usual) are mixing things up.

Macrium Reflect is a brilliant idea - for making backups.

Samsung Magician is an excellent recommendation for cloning your old SSD across to the new one.

As for the RAM have you looked to see how much RAM you're actually using at the moment? Even under full load I'd guess you're using no more than 12.

I have 8gb ram... my ram use is almost always around 6gb or higher it seems. This is when playing and many chrome tabs opened. I play lot of tables and use hem2 so rarely if ever the memory being used is ever under 65%. Its usually in the 80% range+.

Okay so would you recommend me clone the ssd myself then? Is it pretty easy to do so? But i need to buy that nvme enclosure right? So it would be like... buy the new samsung nvme ssd and the nvme enclosure. When i get both of them... i turn on my laptop as normal and then use samsung magician and clone my current 2.5 inch ssd hard drive into the nvme enclosure with the nvme in it connected to my laptop?

The thing i also mentioned earlier is this. I don't want to open the laptop myself and put in the new battery, ram and the ssd. I rather have a computer shop do it. But would you say its pretty simple though? Because my thoughts are if I clone the nvme ssd myself... then when i go to the repair shop, they only need to remove my ram, battery and the 2 ssds... the 2.5 inch and the m.2 32gb cache... then put in 16gb ram, the bigger battery and my cloned nvme 1tb ssd... then power it on... then if its fine... thats all right?

I mean i could pay them to clone it but the thing i dont like about that would be i rather see them do it in person.. because they might say come back next day and then i dont know what they are doing to my computer.

But is macrium reflect good for cloning? Or you would 10% suggest samsung magician to do it? Again, im close to sure getting the samsung nvme ssd... the other option is the sk hynix gold which others recommend. But i get that, would you suggest using that software or macrieum? I feel like getting samsung nvme ssd means a reliable and fast ssd... and great cloning software.

Hey all. One last question.

Is it useless upgrading to 32gb of ram? Im going to make the order later tonight and originally was going to get 16gb ram but then i thought, 32gb would future proof for longer. But 32gb is almost useless then right for what i do? Again, playing lot of tables, hem2, starscaption/partycaption and lot of chrome tabs and music. I would probably use hem3 soon which i read uses more memory and ssd. But is 32gb completely unnecessary?

I did read about people building computer specs and they said if you want to use programs like piosolver and those other programs, that would be required? I do not use any of those programs on my computer but if i do in the future, then i would need 32gb ram?

16gb of RAM is likely fine.

Indeed there were 4 different sentences with question marks in that post alone (although they were largely variations on a theme).

Okay guys making the order by tomorrow. And want advice on the nvme ssd. Yes i know i shouldn't have said last question, as its often never the case.

I decided on the 16gb ram as most likely that is fine. I already ordered my dell laptop replacement battery already.

Now for the 1tb ssd, i mentioned i will get the samsung 970 evo. I asked others about this and literally everyone is saying go and buy the sk hynix p31 instead. Has anyone heard of this? People said its not only 35 dollars cheaper... I honestly don't have an issue with paying more for samsung as i know its the best brand... but they say its the most power efficient ssd ever. They said the samsung 970 evo uses the most power consumption of all and gets really hot. Whereas the sk hynix... does not get hot and uses so little power consumption... while its basically just as fast as the samsung 970 evo.

I googled the sk hynix and checked reviews of it, it seems pretty good. I thought this was an unknown brand but ppl say its very old brand and like 2nd compared to samsung. They said you probably get an extra 10-15 minutes more battery on your laptop, while someone else said you might get up to 30 minutes more... which is nice. But again for me, I have my laptop charged in ac plugged and connected to two monitors and external keyboard. The only thing that matters about battery life is if say there is power outage, which of course does happen so that is why i want longer battery.

But anyone here have experience with the sk hynix p31? Im assuming not since this nvme is relatively new right? Reviews seem to be pretty new but their old 2.5 inch drive, i know thats been out for a long time and that has lot of good reviews. I did read it doesn't have 256 aes encryption. I do use bitlocker though as i want it for requiring a pin/password everytime you turn on your laptop. But this wouldn't affect it right? Like if i can't use bitlocker on this ssd, it would be useless for me. I also find it interesting that i read reviews this ssd doesn't work on MACS... doesn't affect me since i use windows only. But samsung 970 evo still the best way to go right? Someone else said just get the cheapest 1tb nvme out there whether sabrent or crucial but i read so many negative reviews on it.

Give the guy a break man. It only took 6 years procrastinating and about 10000 questions to finally make the big breakthrough and actually buy something.

Well done Pauly i admire your lack of impulse. Im the opposite will look for some tech i want do 10 minutes diligence reading reviews watch a youtube video etc and just buy the thing. Your 10000 questions approach is a complete waste of your time.

I'd never heard of that drive. It is new, from a new-to-consumer brand, and appears highly regarded by testers.

No one here does, because the thing was only just released.

Correct.

Using bitlocker is probably safer for you than the in-built encryption of a drive anyway.

Either one is likely fine for your use; If you got the Samsung, there's no way in 6 months time you'd be thinking "I wish I got the other one" or vice-versa.

Pauly you said elsewhere you're planning on cloning to the new drive. You should probably disable bitlocker before attempting to clone.

Don't waste money,as long as your laptop can still work for you, you'd better keep using it.
