So I came up with an idea the other day to build something, and it turns out it is basically just hitting production in China.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...300138554.html

How hard do you think it is to build a prototype router that can be used as a CDN, that you also push regular security updates to, use open source software throughout it, etc. ?

Do you think a good incubator or high end vc would accept you with such an idea and a prototype or is it a waste of time?

The basic idea is to create a home router for people that doesn't have awful security, and in return, you contribute to a CDN that we can scale massively. Something like $50 with $50 mail-in rebate would be the idea. Basically give them away for free and provide secure networking equipment as a counter service to a nice CDN.

What kind of bandwidth are you expecting to use? I'd be pissed if your content blew my cap and got me throttled. I'd also be pissed if Comcast decided to throttle all of your routers. I like the idea of a distributed CDN though, I'm surprised google hasn't done something like it; free internet if you put one of their boxes in your house or your car.

One of the exits in mind from the start would be a major ISP. To be something they provide customers for free and cut their own costs massively.

I have no idea what China's internet looks like but I'm not sure this makes a lot of sense technically - if you're serving from one home router to another, even for the same ISP and within the same region, you're going through some kind of central hub within the ISP's internal physical network. Why not place CDN node there instead of home routers? Having lots and lots of CDN nodes, each of which has extremely low capacity, makes performance much less predictable and coordination much more difficult.

What are some other blurbs I can say to sound smart?
There is two-way data binding via syntactic sugar. Here's a two-way databound input element:

Code:
<input [(ngModel)]="customer.firstName">
This de-sugars into and is equivalent to:

Code:
<input
  [ngModel]="customer.firstName"
  (ngModelChange)="customer.firstName=$event">
Which should be pretty self explanatory. ngModelChange is the name of the event fired.

By the way, if you hate the all that [()] stuff, which some people do, then you can use these equivalents:

Code:
[ngModel]="foo" === bind-ngModel="foo"
(ngModel)="foo" === on-ngModel="foo"
[(ngModel)]="foo" === bindon-ngModel="foo"

Freaking HR man. I've been in limbo for a week on this new job just waiting for them to dot their Is and cross their Ts. Now we just need a different HR person to confirm one detail, and even though she's been online all day, she hasn't responded to email, lync or picked up the phone. I know it's just job stuff to them, but they are messing with people's lives.

Also we've outsourced like 90% of our HR so I know they're overworked. But still. Don't be freaking unavailable.

I'm going to take the drastic step of walking to her desk if I see her online after lunch.

Well it is in another building. And it's very non-standard to just show up at someone's desk you don't know or work with. But YOLO.

Ok it's done. I walked over to her office, got scolded because she was on the phone, but got the info. I wanted. Lateral move but I am officially a legit architect now (was an application architect before). Good timing too as my existing position is getting really slow and boring.

In other news I have this exciting opportunity:

Hey name,

class AwesomeEngineer:
def joins(self, company):
self.company = company

def impacts(self):
if self.company == 'Thumbtack':
return "Help people accomplish projects."

name = AwesomeEngineer()
name.joins('Thumbtack')
print(name.impacts())

I don't know if you're open to relocating, but I love your experience over the years at company -- which is why I’m reaching out.

blah blah
it finally happened to me I'm so honored. does this code even work i.e. impacts isn't called with an argument or does python make it a default/in scope there I'm not a python guy. would be funny if it doesn't. and yes it was indented correctly at least.

When you call a method on an object in python, like
myobject.foo()
myobject is passed as the first argument to the function (usually called "self")

It looks like it would work to me. It also looks corny as hell. If you take the job, insist that all further communication to you be in the form of valid programs.

Maybe the algorithm does not need to run in O(1)? Experienced devs know when to invest in optimizations

Meh. I don't think a well phrased divide and conquer algorithm question qualifies as a brain teaser. It's subject matter that programmers can (reasonably) be expected to understand.
The reason for these questions is almost always figuring out how you optimize a solution step by step and if you can reason the pros and cons of it. You obviously should get good hints if you get stuck.

Well, it needed to finish running, which mine did and theirs did not. So if that's important...
