Yea so 2 devs for 11 day sprints at 8 hours a day, and some scrum master time, what seems like a standard amount?

Sorry, don't have a clue. I've never done contract work, only salaried.

For extra lulz try to derail the conversation into points instead of hours.

Bill the devs somewhere between $75-$150/hour depending on experience level, location, client pocket depth? Bill scrum master at like 80% of dev rate?

I've never heard of billing per sprint, but if it's at the client's request I'd expect they're trying to reframe the contract to see if they can find better value over a low hours + high hourly contract.

Lol I'm not using points at all, seems like it would be horrific.

Yea at 150/hr it comes to around 35k/sprint, which for 2 weeks of essentially 2 people seems like quite a bit.

I'm proposing we do a rate schedule and have different amounts for the roles, dev1/dev2/SM/designer.

That should be better for both teams because I feel like I would be putting massive pressure on my team if they are charging 35k for 2 weeks.

I was solo on a project, and was billing that monthly. It's definitely not unreasonable.

Good to hear.

I think if I can get sprints to 25-30k it will work, but we'll see.

Most i've walked in a day is 12 miles this year.

I got a new fitbit which is pretty cool; went with it, instead of apple watch and am happy that I bought it instead.
Pm me if you want to be fitbit buddies, i'll add whoever because its cool to compare what the norm is between people.

I can't find good comparisons on their dashboard. Did try the 6 day free premium trial. I have a charge HR and love it.

I have averaged about 14k steps a day since I got it in mid august, which seems to put me in the top 1-2% for males 25-34 (I have a golden retriever I walk all the time with). Most steps I've done in a day is 28k.

I have the fitbit on sensitive sleep and have averaged about 5 hours of restful sleep since I got it (one of the reasons I like it so much, I've struggled with sleeping soundly). Seems to put me in the bottom 5%.

I love having data.

wow @ 14k a day in a programming job. I'm lucky to get 1/3 of that.

To be fair, I'm not at an office these days. All of the programming I've done since I got my fit bit has been out of my apartment.

It's a lot harder to get a lot of steps working 10+ hours a day...

Running or elliptical everyday lately has made it a lot easier. 1 hour at the gym accounts for about half my steps.

Yup! I'm trying to solve everything in Rust (downloaded the compiler for the first time last weekend so the going is slow).

So my fun little project of trying to write a framework to embed component/widgets into 3 different edge systems has turned into something of a nightmare. The platform team that feeds into two of the edge systems has their own homegrown widget framework already which does 100 things we don't need and none of the stuff we do need. But for political reasons we pretty much have to use it. It looks like it was written by a Java dev fairly new to JS - lots of use of .prototype and .call.

The architect who's more in my department wants to try every crazy new bleeding-edge javascript framework out there, even though we barely have any requirements, and little agreement on how similar or different the component layouts and page flows are going to be between each edge system. He keeps talking about "shadow doms" using React and just sending up "dom-diffs" through server-side rendering. Anyone have any idea wtf the latter means? He must have read some article.

Always a great idea to pick a framework before you have any requirements - and go for bleeding edge and max complexity whenever possible. Also you really want to tie yourself into an all-in-one sticky client/server framework because those always last and you never want to change front end or back end technologies. Argh.

Here's what he sent me today:

"shadow doms" sounds like some kind of craigslist personal ad thing

I get 10k+X each day. Walking to/from the train station and walking around the building a bit and walking to get food already does the trick.
Apart from getting a lot of reading/vocabulary done during the train ride the extra walking is a pretty solid reason for me to not take a car.

That's a lot of walking. I never measured steps but I walk ~3 miles a day to keep in shape. Google says 1 mile is about 2,000 steps. I guess if I counted random walking around it would be closer to 4ish.

Longest ever was around 12 miles with only a few < 5 minute breaks. It's easy to rack up a ton of miles if you live in a big city. Nearly every time I visit NYC I end up walking a lot more than normal.

I try to avoid those people as much as possible. So irritating to have around. 9/10 times you could look in your system and see that they never write code on a regular basis themselves.

But I think he probably means the "virtual dom" system that react uses to with smart/dumb components.

Wondering what you guys think of this plan with any tips would be appreciated lol......

I've been gone for a bit, I value opinions from some of you and might as well post it here.

University has basically been free for me, but I've never wanted it. Basically I despise the whole system and finally have motivation to leave it behind. The best thing that few professors taught me was self motivation, years ago and its been getting really old this year.

I where I want to go for "it" which is a life without a degree and trying to make it from poker + freelancing + self coding project.

I only have one semester left in reality; parents with some people I know, think that i'm nuts, when the classes left are super easy but I just don't want any degree next to my name. Been that way since entering uni and this isn't like the last semester of high school; which was a breeze that nobody wanted to do, but I actually felt totally different at that time compared to now.

Few close friends are saying to go for it and i'm not depressed right now btw, but sort of mad that it has taken me this long; to attempt the lifestyle that I want to aim for with the path I want to make.

Anyway, I've started few things where I'm probably going to make a blog about on this site.

1. New Lifestyle that is Vegetarian but includes fish and maybe eggs.
2. Extremely more active lifestyle, i'm slim person but really want to push for more balance, endurance and coordination. Spent this month just doing things with both my left leg and left hand; where i'm getting extremely good with them compared to my rights.
3. Name change that i've already filled out (have to wait) to mail on Monday.
4. Moving to Vegas or California or Montreal or somewhere else in Canada after the winter.
5. Blog my goals + self thoughts.

Not sure on where to move but its a toss of live or online poker with freelance mixed in. I'm not going to be looking for a job because I want no time restrictions.

I pretty much can build anything, given enough time with using online resources that are available.
Idk what it is but I just don't want the degrees next to my name
