My concern was using their site to get the data - not the data itself.

I'm guessing you've never used MFP. It's all user input data and the accuracy of those entries are confirmed by the users.

I didn't quit my job. I like to save and invest aggressively, so the idea of missing some 401k contributions and eventually selling some taxable assets to live off of tilts me, because it would reduce my future passive income.

Having a job has its benefits while looking. When negotiating salary I was able to tell whatever manager I was talking to I was looking for something in the range of 110k instead of 70k and not really give a **** if I didn't get that particular job. If I was unemployed, I'd probably be more desperate and willing to compromise.

Considering "performant" is still disputed as a word clearly it's form as an adverb should be in dispute. Not real imho.

from the article and website, it seems they have had 1 class of 6 applicants and the next camp starts in late January. the guy running it had previously ran a bootcamp called the Software Guild in Akron.

cost is 12k which they promise to reimburse if you cant find a job.

they have 2 camp options, either Java or .Net.

ive taken object oriented classes and ran through the codeacademy javascript lessons so i figure i will just try to refresh my memory on that stuff prior.

i had been strongly considering getting my sht together and applying to some of these bootcamps for a while but this one being in my home town prompted me to pursue it. so it would be nice to avoid relocating, but arent the talent level and employment opportunities much better in nyc or san fran, where many of these other camps are stationed? and really, their cost is similar and they are more established.

any thoughts about my situation are appreciated.
just got back from the open house for these guys, (tomorrow I interview) and it was fairly informative.

seems that the main concern from yall was the choice of languages (java or .net vs ruby or python) and they addressed that straightaway. he informed us that indeed the vast majority of bootcamps focus on ruby or python, but techelevator chose jave and .net bc they see that the vast majority of job openings are looking for command of one of those languages. he was adamant that techelevator is a "demand-driven" bootcamp.

he spoke a lot about employability and said that at this point very few companies require 4 year degrees and are not receptive to boot camp students. those that are still hostile, he said is due to outdated hr reqs and if a person was dead set on that company then an endaround by contacting the tech department directly may work. but really, he said that there are so many companies that are so starved for programmers that there would be no shortage of job opportunities.

much of the camp is focused on job searching. resume building, networking, linkedin, interview techniques are an important part. he showed a slide with a list of many big name companies and claimed that he and his marketing girl (obv a hottie) had connections to them. the list included eaton, keybank, progressive, lincoln electric, federal reserve, cleveland clinic. many old companies based in cleveland he said were looking for programmers. "the world is being rewritten in code." he also is heavily involved with jump start.

as far as the learning process, the curriculum is just as the picture I posted earlier. students learn, html, css, javascript and then either java or .net. all of the work is done in groups of 2 or 3 students.

there were 13 ppl there and i think my coding skill was well above average. many ppl had no coding experience. class size will be 10-12 and the next camp starts on jan 25. I think with my background (engineering degree and poker) I should get accepted so long as I dont bomb the logic test tomorrow.

if anyone has some questions they are interested in, or recommend me to ask tomorrow, I would love to hear them. here is what I will be asking.

-how many grads have gone to established companies vs startups?
-how many legit projects and programs will we complete? just the capstone? or will we do other work that could be shown to an employer?
-are there deferment options for tuition, or assistance programs?

If Cleveland Clinic is anything like Mayo Clinic here, they won't hire anyone without a 4 year degree. Seems like they require a 4 year degree just to push patients around the hospital (obv hyperbole).

Get some contact info for a grad who went on to get a job. Ask what sort of work they're doing.

Is JavaScript and Java a standard combo for teaching? (This is more to everyone else)

Ask to see some completed projects from previous cohorts.

General advice, be really careful of places that have entry quizzes. Maybe it was a bad experience on my end, but I ended up like fifteen grand in debt to one of those places with nothing to show for it. Still hoping Obama forgives that debt.

well, they claim to refund the 12k fee if no job offer in 120 days.

I am interested in your experience with the quiz place.

I get the feeling that the quiz is just a preliminary screening tool and not very important.

asking for completed projects is a nice idea, ty.

fwiw, a programmer buddy of mine and i were chatting the other day. we mentioned how bad a lot of employed programmers seem and how it's essential to be an autodidact to earn our respect.

related, a student at a meetup i attended was working on machine learning homework, but couldn't create fizzbuzz when someone brought up the concept (nicely) and gave hints, etc.

in favor of the bootcamp, if you were just getting started now i can see how the entire landscape would be overwhelming. i started playing around when my options were qbasic or nothing.

Practice!

Given the example on the left, find inputs x1, x2, x3 on the right that gives an output of 1.

The quiz was supposed to weed people out, but you got in no matter your score. It was a bull**** way of lending an air of legitimacy to a crappy, worthless, for profit education.

If this place is new id be very concerned about the possibility of getting your money back.

If you're able to move, check out Viking school. It's all online and they do job placement I think

Edit

If possible, have a friend apply and bomb the logic test on purpose to see if they get in

this place is new. but the guy who founded it, and is running it, had previously ran a different bootcamp out of akron called the software guild which was bought out.

i guess that leads to a question of what exactly his role was for the software guild and why he left.

Fun!
Spoiler:
No combo.

Unless I am misunderstanding the one gate type that I think is supposed to represent AND.
Bottom line is: x3 has to be 0 to have a shot at getting past the first level bottom gate and having correct input (1) for the final AND gate. However, the NOT gate on first level makes the middle upper AND gate fire 0 then. So the final AND gate will certainly have at least one input of 0.

PS: Sneaky switcheroo of OR gate to AND between the a) and b) btw; wouldn't be surprised if that was the actual test.

Pfff, this is more "spot the difference" than a logic exercise. They really should have marked that changed gate somehow.

Have to agree with this if the gates mean what I deduced them to mean

question about creating a auto hot key program?

I need it to press Ctrl+End after X amount of time, where I specify X - is that simple or difficult to do?

Currently in California. About to start a boot camp out here called hack reactor. Have talked to someone doing it now and he isn't too impressed but everyone else I talked to say good things. Supposedly you can drop the first week with a refund. If I get the same vibes I would drop to and try to look for a different program.

What you described seems very similar. A bit over 15k and they require an entry test.
