Ding. Then they go dark. It took me like 5 minutes to see the outfit was a scam but after the initial nausea there is really no point in crying about how he fell for it. He's obv ashamed more than anything.

Same people have done the same scam with easily traceable companies in previous forms that seem to change about every couple of months. This one was just the August 2015 version.

But, we're in contact with other people who have been scammed by the same people in its current form and in previous forms. Also, we're in contact with someone who is STILL in contact with them. They haven't gone totally dark. Cut off contact w/Dad but same version still ongoing. Emails, phone calls, and bank transactions still going on. Website still up, etc.

I have all the info but tracing is just starting. E-mail trackers, WHOIS info, blah blah blah.

Currently still zero chance of recovery or even any hope of pinching them. Not even a glimmer, I'm not thinking that. Overseas authorities basically worthless. Financial institutions just as bad and practically criminally complicit from what I've learned so far. But, I'm asking if we know anyone who can help with the tracing, financial and computer I guess. Gonna try to do what I can this week before they go completely dark. I'm asking if anyone knows like a serious real world Mr. Robot guy who can help with this ****, hehe. Not really sure what I would want them to do exactly yet but I have some ideas.

Legit compensation and reward money!!!! DM.
Cross posting in case any of you are private eye computer forensicists. Which I don't think is a word.

That may or may not be true, I don't know. I'd have to actually learn enough Java to bull**** my way through an interview for this A/B test to work.

I feel like something as silly as this could cause a lot of rejections. If you're comfortable with git, just say that you're capable of using it with a team. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then do some experiments where you have the same codebase checked out in multiple places with each one connected to the same origin repo?

Just lie about git. I mean, who really asks about that stuff in an interview? As long as you don't claim you are an expert, just tell them you know the basics and you are good.

No one gets rejected from a job because they don't know git. That's my claim for the day.

Takes a weekend and writing some toy programs + reading through that Java job interview book to get good enough for the typical Junior dev jobs imo

Meanwhile Carmack's 10 year old son just finished a Racket game (his 3rd game total I think). Now I feel like I can get nothing done.

Classes started today. Taking an Android course for easy GPA.

Prof was like everyone uses Android Studio, no more eclipse and we got new book that was just printed 2 weeks ago!

Then he opens text pad and starts explaining inheritance by creating a simple class but lawl who teaches like that. Opens up explorer and navigates to the android source to show the view class and doesn't just use an IDE, type out View and use shortcut keys.

FFS this new prof is smart I believe but he slaughtered that class for anyone that is a newbie to Android.

Went over packages, xml, inheritance and that was all for the day.
I personally would open the IDE, create a project from scratch, go to xml and pull out a button with a label. Show how to hook up code to button + label and change the label on button press. Explain that Android is made up of Activities and Fragments (New) but just focus on Activities for now. Show the manifest and explain how it allows permissions to work and activities to launch. Then start showing where they can add media and where strings are stored in the project. He will get to it but so far, execution is not the best.

Well interestingly looks like 2p2 is blocked when I'm on the corporate VPN, but not when I'm at the office. Not sure what the rationale is there.

I think it is funny how, out of the long list of gripes, git gets the most attention.

As for learning Java just to get a job... I'm not in the mood to learn a language at all, much less for the sole purpose of finding a job, nor am I in the mood to apply for more jobs. I was dead serious about what I said and I still don't feel moved away from that thinking. My experiences have been overwhelmingly negative.

daveT,

You have an overwhelming number of obvious personality flaws that are likely even more horrible in person. There is a reason that 10xers get tolerated for all sorts of aspie behaviors, but a fungible entry level grunt such as yourself with no meaningful skills or experience does not.

You are basically the rude and obese woman applying for a secretary job who keeps wondering why she is unable to get hired when she can clearly type and answer phones.

Giving up on a professional job is probably the best option. It is unlikely you ever good enough to overcome the personality problems. Hopefully you will put in some time on personal development and human interaction instead of giving up!

Best of luck!

I think you don't understand the difference between an online persona and a real person.

I may not be far in life, but I wouldn't even be this far if I had a terrible personality.

edit to add: even so, I don't think you'd find many places where I outright told someone off or said something rude to a poster without being provoked first. If you don't know who I am, you really should never speak about me, and I won't speak of you. Deal?

Sorry daveT. I didn't mean to be insulting, but your problem is obvious to anyone who has actually had any experience with HR and technical hires.

I guess it is insulting to hear that your personality is so toxic that no one will hire you for positions you're clearly qualified for, but that is your current state of affairs. Or I guess there is a massive conspiracy.

Fwiw, I tried to set up an opportunity for daveT to contract-to-hire with my company and it didn't work out, but it had everything to do with us and very little to do with him. My boss (CEO) in a previous life was a consultant at PWC among others and thought dave was a solid guy by all accounts.

We don't have the bandwidth to train someone and give them the attention they need. We are hiring 8-10+ year people with high profile work in our industry who can just plug into a functional role as a dev. Unfortunately, training isn't something we can do right now. We have to spend more on already experienced people.

He's a solid dude in an industry with tons of quirky personalities, I feel like I let him down tbh and am confident he can eventually find something.

I felt the same way but you earn your time off and it's free for you to use however you see fit so really you are using YOUR time, not your employer's time.

Some options:
Taking PTO

Taking tomorrow off
Using a personal day

Or any combination of the above, no bs excuse necessary.
