Solver work: 3970x vs 3950x (want vs need?) Solver work: 3970x vs 3950x (want vs need?)

Hey guys,

So I'm planning to upgrade my pc for FAST & ENJOYABLE solver work and I was planning to buy 3970x, but after couple days of researching and drooling I thought that maybe, just maybe 3950x is enough?

Have any of you had experience with one or both of these models? Can you share your solver timings?

I'm looking to solve 100-200bb spots with 1-5 sizings for each action for a primary sim and less for the next one (depends on structure and etc, you know...)

I'm currently using Ryzen 5 2600 and it's a total pain in the ass to use a solver. Slow and boring. By the time solver finishes all enthusiasm is long gone...

seriously doubt you need a 2k$ cpu for post flop solves. mw and pre flop are different beasts, 1st one in particular.
consider less sizings, you never need more than 3 sizes on turn and river
flop I just solve separately for small and larger cbets and have a small 3b option as well
on a 2700x, solving a 100x srp for all unique flops takes about a week. bvb was 10 days. 200x just a bit longer, 3b/4b pots are really quick (at 1% dEV)
once you're done with srp, the rest go really easy on anything remotely competent
I've actually done 4b databases on an i5 3rd gen, in paralel with my 2 main rigs. about a 24h/spot solve for all unique flops.
streamline the process, you're simply looking for a practical way to learn and drill spots

I believe simple is faster than pio. gto+ might be too.
for pre flop and mw, simple is def the way to go
post flop, can't beat the value of gto+

You're right on solver system req. And about sizes as well, that's why I said "1-5" sizes and not "3+" . On my 2nd, 3rd sim on the same flop-turn-river I usually end up with 1-2 sizings, so it's easier to reproduce in real game...

But my question was about how long it takes for each CPU to solve the same spot. For example if 5950x (hello 4th gen <3) takes 7 minutes to solve and 3970x takes 3.5 minutes - that's it negligible for me. But if 5950x takes 25 minutes and 3970x takes 12, than that's something that I'd gladly pay extra for.

And from what I've talked with solver creators, solvers can easily and effectively utilize 32 cores, so the improvement should be substantial.

...Time is valuable

So yeah, still waiting for someone with either of these processors to come and share their timings.
