You question boils down to "what laptop should I buy for browsing the internet". The answer is "any laptop". You could just use your phone for this use case. As long as the laptop is newer than about 2005 you'll be fine.

I can't see why you're so keen on Chromebooks. Just get a cheap Windows laptop with enough storage for whatever you need.

Edit: and get the free version of Malwarebytes Antimalware and a free antivirus like Avira. Without wishing to be rude, I think a separate computer for this kind of stuff is a very good idea given your long history of problems with your computers.

Hi there. Well i wanted to be specific. Because if i say just browsing the internet, you might assume i mean streaming youtube and just visiting regular websites that most likely don't have malware etc. But regular sites that are very popular have ads where of course if you click on it, you aren't sure if its safe. There are also some other sites that many people visit but im not sure if all the ads are safe if you click on it.

Well i dont want to use my phone because well i want to download movies/porn. Also i tried streaming sports and tv on my iphone last time but it did not work. I believe it said you need flash. So because of that, you need a computer. Thus thats why i want a separate computer.

Well i heard of chromebooks a while back but i never read much about it until recently. I read that its great for surfing internet and emails and youtubing... and someone posted that its the ideal porn machine. However, it isn't ideal if you want to download porn or movies/tv shows. What confuses me is i read few reviews on chromebook which says its useless because everything is stored on the cloud. Is this true or not? Because let say i get a 16gb chromebook. Well could i download say 5 files that are 5gb each from sites that might be shady whether its porn or tv show or movies and then it is on my download folder where i could then view it offline? Or are not videos/pictures even allowed on the computer and EVERYTHING has to be on the cloud. Because if thats the case, i think chromebook wouldn't be good for me because even though i use it mainly to stream through sites to watch sports/tv and stream porn, i want to be able to download porn videos through sites posted by other users and also download tv shows/movies etc.

Yes because of my issues with computers, thats why i want a separate computer where even if you download a virus or whatnot, it doesn't matter since it doesn't affect my primary computer. The other reason why i wanted to get a chromebook was they seem to be very thin and i read that they cannot get viruses. So if i get a cheap windows laptop, well if it gets virus, im going to have to reset it often which i dont want. Howver, would i even need to or not? Also the chromebooks are much cheaper than a cheap windows laptop. Even the cheapest windows laptop seem to cost more than one of the best chromebooks. So i want to know if those chromebooks i listed would be good for my purpose.

I have those free antivirus that you mention. So do you think a chromebook can do what i want here? Thus... should there be issues from streaming from sites like stream2watch and putlocker and those similar sites?

And could i even download videos and open it up from my documents? Because if i cannot, then it would seem a chromebook is useless then?

Also someone mentioned that viruses if it hits one computer, it could hit the entire network. Do you know if thats true or not? So to make it safe, not only do i use a separate computer... but i should also use a separate internet connection? I do have other internet connection that i could use that i dont do my main things on. Its actually a shared wifi in my building etc. I of course use my own connection. Thanks.

Can someone here confirm a few things with a chromebook

1. Would i be able to stream through sites like stream2watch?

2. If i buy a 64gb micro sd card along with the chromebook, could i download files from sites that are say 1gb... then once im close to out of space on the 16gb chromebook, i just move that video to the micro sd card etc? That way i could have lot of videos on the chromebook? Thus... does the micro sd card solve the problem of not enough storage?

If you make significant income from your home computers, I think you should hire someone to set up a small business class router than can support separate, segregated VLANs for your different usages. I'd suggest 1 network for Business, one for home general and a DMZ type network for your "downloading" uses. Use wired connection for Business, set up separate SSIDs connected to the home and DMZ VLANs.

I got free norton anti virus software with my computer, but my subscription is about to expire. Should I renew it or is windows defender good enough?

Some people would say Defender is enough; I'm not yet convinced. But I wouldn't use Norton anyway - plenty of decent free alternatives (for example try Avira, Avast, BitDefender etc). Also get Malwarebytes Antimalware. Again there is a free version (and while you cannot use two traditional AV products together you can use this alongside one of the products mentioned above).

Can anyone recommend software with a shallow learning curve that can be used to speed up videos?

I'm interested in making videos somewhat similar to this

Hey all got some security question and i posted this in the bitcoin thread as well. Some of these questions are related to bitcoin but its related to computer tech so i like others opinions on this especially if you own crypto. The people on the bitcoin thread seem to mention just use nano ledger s or electrum and you are good but very few ppl talk about how to take precautions such as website visiting etc.

1. Do almost all of you have btc in either a hardware wallet like nano ledger or trezor? Do more or less people keep btc in electrum as oppose to nano ledger?

2. Where do you guys keep your electrum 12 word seed or your 24 word seed for nano ledger/trezor. Because people say never store it online. However if you write it down on piece of paper, if theres a fire or theft, well that would be gone etc. I assume almost all of you write it down in say 2 or 3 different places? But do you put it all in your apartment/house or you might put one piece in say a safety deposit box? Because even if you put the paper in a safe in your house, well that can be opened still.

My thoughts were why not type in your seed in keepass? Because in order for someone to access it, they need to know your master password. But if something happens to your laptop like theft or damage etc and say your external hard drive, well then you have no backup then. But if you store it on say dropbox/google drive, well that way you have an online backup. Has anyone done this or recommend it? I read people say never store your seed online anywhere. But if you are emailing your seed in an open document well obviously that is a horrible idea. But if you do it in keepass and upload it in keepass, isn't that pretty safe? Because if your email somehow gets hacked, well your keepass still needs to get hacked. The other thing i thought was maybe store your seed in 2 different keepass files and put it in 2 different dropbox/google accounts? That way someone would need to hack both emails and both keepass when you have a separate password for each? Of course the issue here is you need to remember all these passwords as oppose to just remembering your dropbox/google password and your keepass.

However, i read that if you do this and say you download a keylogger, then basically the hacker could basically read every keystroke you type down and then access your keepass easily. So unless you are very careful with what you click on everytime, then i guess keeping it in keepass is not good idea due to this? Now what if someone installs malware on it. Could they get your keepass file access that way or it has to be a keylogger? Because im not sure what is really the safest way to keep your 12 word or 24 word seed because there are disadvantages for each one.

3. I read lot of cases where people clicked on phishing likes on google like when you type in binance... first link shows up is a google ad with binance which is a phishing site. Heard people talk about typing their account information in and then their account get hacked. I heard the same with fake electrum wallet whether its electrum or bitcoin cash or bitcoin gold wallet. In every case i believe, the person enteres their seed and then wallet gets hacked. I believe this is the same with the myetherwallet fake site? The thing is when i googled myetherwallet, i never saw a phishing ad for it on google. But i read countless people talk about it. And the other thing is what if you click on a phishing link whether its binance, electrum or myetherwallet... but you do not put in your seed or login information. Are you generally safe as long as you don't type anything into it? Or has there been cases of peoples electrum or binance getting hacked just for visiting the site.

Most importantly, why has google not taken down these adds? You type in binance and first link is a google ad that has the same address.

4. To those of you who use your laptop whether its for cryptocurrency or anything else, do almost every one of you have a password on it to prevent other people from turning it on? Say a thief gets your laptop. If no password, they could access it very easily. But could they hack into your keepass or similar files or not? But if they were to install a keylogger, well that would be useless since they need to return the laptop to you in order for this to happen right? So what do you guys suggest for laptop encryption? Is the windows 10 password basically useless? I read that someone could just take hard drive out and view everything on it. I also heard about bitlocker and veracrypt. Does anyone here use it and have feedback? Basically i want to make sure if someone has access to my laptop, they cannot view it without a password and all they get is the laptop and hard drive and cannot view any information.

5. Is your computer/IP connection at risk if you were to visit say streaming sites whether its watching movies/tv/porn etc if you do all of this on a completely different computer where you do not have any important information such as wallets, keepass and documents in it? Like you use a separate laptop solely to stream tv and those sites and even download videos where its possible that there could be virus/malware on it? Because someone mentioned certain viruses/malware could potentionally infect your internet connection? Or is this not true? Because obviously people would use a separate computer for their streaming and downloading habits. But most people don't have 2 internet connections. But i believe streaming and downloading torrents/tv/porn would still be safe but it would require you to make that 2nd computer use linux as oppose to windows? I know this last question is more a tech question but im sure many of you guys who use cryptocurrency stream tv/sports etc so i want to know how you can keep yourself safe.

Thanks all.

What resolution is the monitor you plan to play on?
GPU prices are a bit out of hand with mining demand.
@1920x1080, I'd be looking for something with a Core i5 7th or 8th gen, or Ryzen 5 or 7 CPU, 1060 NVIDIA or 580 Radeon GPU and an SSD boot drive and secondary HDD for game storage. 8-16GB of RAM.
I'd ballpark between $1K-1500 without monitor
You can probably drop to 1050ti/570 to trim back a bit.

Hey all have an issue with my gmail account getting locked because of too many attempts. The password i typed is correct.

I recently had cleared my chrome history on my laptop. I also flew to another country as well so that is probably the reason as im logging into the account with the new ip address. But this is an ip address that i have used before but it was a long time ago.
When im trying to log into my gmail account, i had put in my password which is correct. But it then ask me to type in the recovery email address to confirm. I looked at it and i had a few gmail accounts with similar spelling etc. I typed it in and it said that is not correct. Then i typed in another email and it was not correct. Im not 100 percent sure but i might have misspelled one letter by mistake etc.

It also gives you another option as in answer your security question. However, that question i could not answer because i had this gmail account for a very long time already. I tried it a few times and it was not correct etc.

Does anyone when i can log back into my gmail account? When it said wait few hours to attempt again because of too many attempts. Well i waited at least 7 hours etc and i got that message again that account is locked. My password is correct though. Can someone tell me how long i have to wait to try again or is there someone i could contact/email on this issue? It does show my contact recovery email partially such as imagine my recovery email was say paulyjames900909090@msn.com. Well it would display something like paul......0@msn.com and want you to fill in the rest etc. But i have several emails that look like the one shown but it said it was not correct and it must have been due to me adding a letter in by mistake.

The only other thing is i even got a message to my phone that uses google voice/hangouts that is connected to my email that google has blocked someone with the password for my gmail account from signing in to the account. So does this mean i could log into my google/gmail account on my phone then? The thing is i have to access my gmail account from my computer. Anyone have advice on this? How long do i have to wait until i could log into gmail account from my computer? I mean it was 7 hours already at least until i attempted to log in again. And has anyone who has google voice/hangouts had this message received on their cell?

When i tried to log into my other gmail and other accounts, i got message we detect unusual activity etc since its a new ip address. The thing is i have used this ip address because but it was a long time ago etc. My other email accounts i have no issues because when it asked me for recovery email related to it, i typed in the right one. But this is my main gmail account.

Someone else suggested click on forget your password and then it would send a recovery email to the email that is connected to that email. But has anyone done it that way? I dont want to attempt one way and then get the message too many attempts try again and i might have to try again much later etc.

Hold down the ctrl-key and use the mouse-wheel to change the size (back)?

no luck. I got in the font settings on windows and couldn't do anything there either. Clicked Restore default font settings, nothing.

Excel also looks a lot different. It looks a lot lighter if that makes sense.
2p2 is one of the sites that still looks exact same.

Really don't want to make a "Look at the PC to buy" thread So I'll just post here.

Right now I'm running this

Intel - Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
ASRock - H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair - Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
Crucial - MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
EVGA - GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Superclocked Video Card
XFX - 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

As you can tell this is pretty old so I'm looking to upgrade meaning buy a new system.

I came across this which at first glance looks like alright deal. http://www.ukgamingcomputers.co.uk/n...ter-p-171.html

Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5 Case
Corsair CX 550W PSU
Intel Core i7 7700 3.6Ghz Processor
Asus PRIME B250M-PLUS Motherboard
8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400MHz DDR4 RAM
Nvidia GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Graphics Card
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm Hard Drive
7.1 Surround Sound Audio
2 Rear USB 2.0 and 2 Front & 4 Rear USB 3.0 Ports
Gigabit Ethernet

I would get a SSD in this too fyi. I'm mainly buying this to game on CSGO/PUBG/Fornite etc etc ... Do you think there is going to be a huge difference performance wise?

Also anything else I should take note of?

I use a Mac Book Pro and have an issue so here I am asking if this is happening to anyone else: Twice w/i the last week a new tab opens by itself in Safari and it comes w/ a loud ring tone. The page says it's from Apple support and that I've got viruses, etc and should click on a button to fix it. I know enough to just close the tab w/o clicking on anything but I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue and how it's possible for these likely hackers to cause Safari to open a new tab.

I also use the free version of Sophos and scans show nothing wrong.

I'm 68 and even I know that which is why I just close the tab and run the Sophos. I'm just wondering how they break through (it that's the right word) and open a new tab bec that seems a lot tougher than the standard phishing attempt.

You should notice that it's only happening when you go to a particular site, or a particular type of site. It's just shenanigans being played with web pages, they are probably not downloading anything unless you click yes. I mostly see this kind of activity when trying to download games from shady download sites.

Hey guys wondering if you could help me out. I just put together this rig here...https://gyazo.com/96b1beae4b4581d9810605a4d0c1677e Minus the I7 (Went with a I5 instead).

So I think I have put everything together alright until. When I powered it on the front 3 fans on the case are not spinning. The 3 fans are connected to a splitter. Then I imagine you wire it to the CHA_FAN marked on the motherboard (I've actually tested these slots with the fan at the back and that fan spins in all of them). I do understand that I may need a controller for the RGB lights (Not 100% sure on this) but this shouldn't stop the fans spinning right?

So I imagine that I have maybe connected it wrong to the splitter I'm guessing, Any advice.

Here is the Mobo and Case
