Hey all got a question.

I have a dell laptop that uses a quad core processor and has 8gb ram. Also uses an ssd as well. Its a pretty fast computer when i first started using it.

However, now it seems the ram memory is almost always at 90 percent. The thing is i have a lot of chrome windows opened. Its maybe over 10. The issue however is few of those chrome windows... they have over 25 tabs on each one of them. And these seem to also update a lot as in it sort of refreshes these pages. Its not like google.com etc. The thing is when i close all the chrome windows, the memory drops all the way to under 30 percent or so. But if i have one or two windows opened, its still decent. The thing though is when i start up chrome, i have these pages set to open as i have to have these chrome windows on.

I like to know, is there a way i can fix this issue? I read chrome uses a lot of memory. I also got a message that uses use microsoft edge because it uses less memory. However i like using chrome.

Is the only way to fix this issue upgrade my ram? And if so, would going to 12gb be fine or would i need 16gb? The reason i ask this is because i have 8gb ram and its 2 sticks each. So if i get 1 stick of 8gb ram, well i would have 12gb. That would seem good but then i read there might be issues if you dont have the same exact gb ram and model for the 2 slots in the computer... is that true or not? And would that mean using 16gb ram would be enough where the computer does not lag? Because since i have over 10 chrome windows opened... but many of these have over 25 tabs, when i visit say youtube or any site, i definitely noticed a lag. And the reason why i did not upgrade my ram was because i recalled people say 8gb ram is more than what most people need even if you have a lot of chrome windows.

Also i notice they actually sell one 16gb ram as well as oppose to 2 pieces of 8gb each. Its actually cheaper if you get 1 stick. So would it be fine to get one stick of 16gb? Or its better to have 2 sticks of 8gb each? The thing is there are 2 slots there... so wouldn't it make sense to get 1 stick incase you ever want to upgrade it to 32gb?

The fix for your issue is not having 250+ tabs open in Chrome. Have you heard of bookmarks?

That is a ridiculous amount of tabs to have open, how long does it take to boot and why do leave them all open?
Questions, questions Quote

You mean how long does it take to boot my computer? Or you mean chrome? Because when i turn on chrome, all the windows show up because i did the setting where chrome opens all the windows from chrome last. Thus when i turn off my computer, i dont close the chrome tabs. The moment i do open chrome though, it does show 100 percent cpu usage and around 90 percent ram usage.

The tabs are mostly pages that show information about certain things. I want to look at the pages of each of these individual pages because they update regularly.

So should one 16gb ram stick or two sticks of 8gb ram?

It probably doesn't matter, with that many tabs open I wouldn't be surprised if you just lessoned the amount of swapping you were doing and still sucking up your ram with tabs. If you do 16G in one stick you may be able to upgrade more in the future or be able to use it one of your existing sticks. Buy the memory from Crucial and use their tool to make sure what you're getting is compatible with your set up.

Pauly, you really need to work out how often you look at each of those tabs. Anything you look at more frequently than every 5 minutes, then keep it open. Everything else, put in a bookmarks folder and click on it when you want to look at it (and do all of that in ONE tab - i.e. going from one site to the next - don't open each site in a new tab). It's not as though you can look at 250 tabs all at the same time, so why kill Chrome getting it to update them all when you're not using them?

Hi there. If i do 16gb in one stick, if i want to add more memory, you mean if i want to add say another 16gb? Someone on another forum suggested i get one 16gb and use one of my current 4gb ram so 20gb ram. That way its dual memory because you are using 2 rams? Would you recommend this or not? Also if i were to upgrade my ram again, wouldn't 24gb ram be more than enough?

At the moment, its using around 92% ram out of the 8gb. So if i just make it 16gb, it should go to around 50 percent or so?

These tabs are actually cryptocurrency tabs for many of the coins. So i like to look at the history and the recent increase/decrease price of each coin. So when i click on the tab, i can just click history and refresh it etc. I just want it right there on one chrome window which has all these tabs. I have other windows that have a few tabs as well but these are sites i visit so i have to have them because i log into them.

The bookmarks folder. Is this when you click the star on a chrome page and add it to favorites or is it something else? Or is it certain websites that are shown right under the place where you type in the website. Because if you mean me starring favorite sites, i have a lot of them already. I also have certains sites under the place where you type in the windows etc.

I would like to keep it the way it is. So based on this, would you recommend 1 stick of 16gb or 2 sticks of 8gb thunderbolt? Because i cannot imagine myself needing to upgrade to 32gb ram almost ever. And if i were to do that, well, i still need to buy one 16gb ram so wouldnt 16gb and 8gb which is 24gb probably more than enough for anything if thats the case? I just dont want an issue where 2 different ram gb could possibly cause an issue with my computer so i want to take extra precautions.

Also if i get two 8gb ram, which one am i suppose to buy on amazon?

There is one that is 182 dollars with 2 sticks of 8gb

There is one that is 176 dollars with 2 sticks of 8gb but it says single rank.

Im confused which one is better here?

I do not recommend you do what you want.

If you keep on using Chrome in the way you are using it, you are always going to run out of system resources. Even if adding RAM helps in the short term, it won't help you in the long term. Your real problem is that you are trying to use the software in a way which just doesn't make any sense.

When I said bookmarks I meant either of the two options you suggest. You could create a folder within the favorites folder, or you could add buttons to the bookmarks bar (or favorites bar if it's called that in Chrome).

You could put the ones you want to look at most often on the bookmarks bar, so you need only one click (it would then be just as fast as clicking on another tab). If you're worried about not fitting many in, you can right click on each link in the bookmarks bar, click properties, and delete the description to save space (you'll probably recognise the link by the favicon) or shorten the description to something you recognise that's only one or two characters long.

You could add everything else to your favourites. They'd still only be a click or two away.

If you insist on continuing with your frankly insane idea that you need 250+ tabs open, adding RAM might help a little bit. If you want dual-channel RAM you need to add MATCHING sticks of RAM. One 4Gb stick and one 16Gb stick won't give you that. I have no idea what slots there are in your machine or what precise RAM you have already so that's all I can tell you.

Frankly, though, you could buy a $5k computer with 128Gb RAM and I'd guess that at some point the way you're going you'd end up with 650+ tabs and exactly the same problem. Fix the underlying issue. Stop trying to apply expensive Band-Aids.

Hey there thanks for that information. I closed several of the tabs in a few of those chrome windows where there are like 50+ tabs. My laptop is a dell xps 9550 quad core i5 6300hq laptop. Has 8gb ram and an ssd.

I then put it in the bookmaker folder which is really nice. I did not know you could do this. I thought you could only bookmark and that was it. One question about this. Say i do several of this bookmark folders. Let say in one chrome window of mine there are about 25 tabs in one but then i deleted say 10 of them etc. Is there a way to do the one click open it up again and have those 10 tabs show on the same window as the 25 tab or not?

Also there is one other issue that i do not know if this is possible but now i think there is. Say i have 10 chrome windows on my computer. I want to move say the 5th chrome window to the first one. Does move it to where the first few chrome windows are certain ones. Can you do this or not? I always assumed this cannot be done but based on that bookmark thing you mentioned, i probably can? Also what you told me to do with the bookmark page because im obviously not looking at that many tabs at once but just want it there whenever i look, it made my memory drop from over 90 percent all the way to around 80 percent. I will also go and remove a few other tabs that i dont need and it will probably go down a bit more. But at how much percent memory would you say the computer is good with chrome and say other programs on? If your computer is always at 95 percent ram or around there, could that possibly cause damage to computer? Would something in the mid 80 percent memory usage when using the computer be fine? Because right now im guessing i might not need up upgrade my ram if my memory usage is going to be high mid 80 percent? Also whenever i open chrome and all these windows/tabs shows up, my cpu immediately goes up to 100 percent everytime. My memory would go from like 25 percent all thew way to 80 and then around 93 or so before i did the bookmark thing you suggested.

I don't really understand your questions and am too tired to try but if you mean can you drag a tab from one Chrome instance to the next, the answer is yes. Either have them on separate screens or separate sides of a screen and drag the tab name at the top from one window to the next.

I meant say you have a few chrome tabs showing. You want the last tab to be the first one...

Hoping someone can help me.

I have a Hp Desktop - it's nothing special but it's used just for Grinding and not much else.

I've always run two Samsung Monitors into it, one via the single HDMI port, and one via the VGA port.

I just picked up an ASUS gaming monitor for my Xbox which is beside it. Other than buying an expensive (ish) dock, is there a way to run this monitor through either VGA or HDMI to USB?

If I do have to buy a dock, will my graphics card be OK handling three monitors? I know specs would be ideal here, but unfortunately I don't have them on me at work, so I guess the question is "do some graphics cards not support three monitors?"

cheers

I'm planning on getting google wifi. Does anyone know if it is safe from this KRACK thing?

Tried to google it, but didn't find an answer that was dumbed down enough for me.

I've got all my commonly used bookmarks on my boomark bar - the more important ones fit, because I'm not insane enough to need 500. But I do put some in folders on the bar, and when I right-click on a folder, I can choose to open one or all of them in the current browser window, or in a new window. So you could organize bookmarks you want to open together into one folder, and then open them all at once.

A few???

There's pretty much no question in my mind that you're doing things completely and utterly wrong if you think you need hundreds of tabs open.

And as usual, a whole lot of your questions could have been answered already by doing some research rather than bombarding people with 3,463 questions (at least half of them terribly worded) at once.

Google patched all their vulnerable devices in early November.

If you are also using non-google devices, a list of vendors who have/have not patched this is available here.

Thanks. Couple more questions:

1. In your link, google is described as "affected". Wouldn't that suggest that it is still vulnerable (as of the date listed, which is over a month ago...maybe the list just isn't up to date)?

2. Right now I have a modem. The router (i.e., google wifi) will be connected to the modem, and then the devices will get wifi through the router. In this case as long as the router is patched, does it mean the whole system is safe from a KRACK attack.

In the link, the "date updated" column is the date that the vendor released a patch to fix the issue. In Google's case, that was on Nov 8th - that was when they released the patch that resolved the problem. Good general advice for the purchase of any device, however, is to make sure you are running the latest version of software and download any updates that are available.

I don't claim to be an Information Security expert, but if your router is patched and you have ensured your google wifi device(s) are running the latest version of code, you should be safe from a KRACK attack. (At least until the next vulnerability is discovered).

Hey guys,

Just wondering if there was a piece of software out there for the following.

Basically I have 2 monitions across these monitors I want to tile/snap 4 Chrome windows at the push of a hot key. So basically preset windows like you would for tiling poker tables on stars.

I did a quick search and got TaskLayout software now I haven't fiddled around with it yet but I imagine this is for different applications not for what I want it for as I just want it to snap the same application (Chrome) But 4 different windows.

Think I explained that alright let me know if I didn't or have any questions.

Ok I found the above, not perfect but I guess it's good enough. I've only tried it on my laptop not sure it supports multiple monitors as of yet but I think I read it does.

Hey all looking for opinion on what laptop to buy as i want another computer solely for visiting stream sites/downloading.

I have a dell laptop that i use at the moment and its fine. I like to get another laptop solely to do things such as visit streaming sites to stream sports/tv shows and watch movies and maybe download torrents and yes to stream porn and download porn. And yes that would mean downloading porn files from forums where you don't know if there are viruses or not on it. I also would stream porn as well and when i do this, it would be those popular porn sites that you stream etc. Thus I want it to be where it doesn't matter what site i just to stream porn etc. And of course watch tv shows such as stream cable tv shows etc. There are lot of these sites online but i would rather use a separate computer for it.

First off, does anyone have any suggestion on what laptop i should buy for this? I obviously don't want to spend much money for this since the whole purpose of it is to use it to stream tv/sports and download porn/stream porn on it. Thus i don't even care if it gets a virus on it as long as it doesn't affect my primary computer. I don't really want to spend more than say $350 max on this as well the purpose is to basically download stuff and watch tv and sports stream etc. And before anyone asks... why don't i use an old laptop i no longer use, well that broke so i don't have a spare laptop.

So should i get a laptop or a chromebook? Because i read a chromebook uses chrome OS but not only that, they either have 16gb or 32gb memory. That is obviously way too little since even if i download movies... well a few movies could already hit the 16gb memory etc. I would like the laptop to be either 13.3 or 14.1 laptop as 11.6 is way too small and 15.6 is too big. I checked amazon and best buy for chromebooks and they show these

HP $200+ tax

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-14-c...?skuId=5733411

Asus $170+tax

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-c3...?skuId=5796607

Acer $300+tax

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-14...?skuId=5203000

The Acer does seem to have 32gb space which is quite a bit compared to the 16gb space.

Are these good options for a chromebook? Or do you suggest something else? Or should it be a laptop? The thing is laptops cost more money... and again i would mainly be downloading movies/porn and streaming sites with it etc. Also would there be a way to get more memory such as sd chip? For example imagine i download 10 movies on it and each movie is 5gb. Well that would be way too big for my computer etc. So the negative of chromebook is the gb because its mainly for basic task and streaming. However, people do buy it to stream online mainlyl right and to watch streams online from sites that could possibly be shady?

Thanks all.
Questions, questions Quote

Also can someone tell me if i buy a chromebook with either 16gb or 32gb... would i be able to stream through sites like stream2watch? For example i want to stream sports on the computer. Or stream through sites like putlocker. I read on reddit that someone mentioned their chromebook had issues streaming through certain sites because of flash?

Also the other big question is this. would i be able to download a 500mb or 1gb file on a website where someone posts the file? Thus when you use a windows computer and have a regular hard drive, you download it and then it gets saved to your downloads folder and thus you can view the file/video etc. But on one of the reviews for a chromebook that i saw on amazon... they said chromebook is useless because you cannot store files or videos on the computer... you need to store it in cloud. Can someone confirm this is true or not? Because even with the small hard drive space, even if i could have say 5gb that i store on the computer, that would be okay. But if i cannot download files/videos on chromebook where i could view it without needing to be online, that would make me feel a chromebook is useless.

Also i read people say everything is on the cloud. If thats the case, wouldn't that mean if you download from sites where people posts movies or porn videos and then the cloud detects it, then your files get erased etc? For example a while back i used one of those cloud services... i forgot which one... i uploaded a few porn videos i downloaded online. Then i found out when i log into it, i broke the TOS and then account got closed. I had no idea you couldnt upload porn into a site like that.

So the laptops main purpose in order of importance is

1. Stream sports/tv and movies on sites like stream2watch and putlocker

2. Download porn videos from sites where people post files. But of course there is good chance i say it would have a virus on it. But i would generally download it from people that have huge posts counts. For example there is a porn site like planetsuzy that i visit where i ask this question and people mentioned they downloaded lot of videos there and never got a virus. So i thought that was amazing. And before someone says to stop the habit.. well i just want to download some scenes. Im not looking to download like 200 videos etc. Thus as long as i could download a few, if the computer doesn't have space, i would just delete it or send it to a cloud service etc.

3. Stream Porn

4. Download old TV shows or just TV series now. Things like Breaking Bad, or those series where i could have it on my computer.

5. Visit Forums That Could Possibly Have Malware. By this i mean just regular forums but those that have ads. Its basically any of those sites that have ads and you are not sure if they are 100 percent safe.

The thing is i know most people do watch porn. But of course some a lot more than others. So the thing is even if you watch a bit of porn, well isn't it bad to do this on your main computer where you could do banking transactions on it etc?

So i like to get advice from you guys. Some people mentioned to just go incognito mode and use an ad block but isn't that 100 percent not safe still? I could understand it work if you are streaming tv or porn... but if you are downloading tv shows or movies or porn... well thats not going to prevent it. And thus i just read about the chromebook recently and people say its basically the perfect device to watch porn. However, if you download porn, then wouldn't it not work because hard drive is too small... but could you even download porn videos or movies and then save it on your computer and access it whenever you like? Because if you can't, then i think a chromebook would be useless then here.

Would appreciate your feedback on this.
