ASUS laptop, windows 10.

Intermittently my NIC disconnects from wifi. This issue followed from Win 7. I had updated driver in 7, no help.

Usually a reboot will allow me to reconnect.

This morning I dropped, rebooted, and now I have been on 'Getting windows ready...' screen for an hour.

Windows has been fully updated to now.

Q: what is the chance the nic is flaking, and I'll be safe to shut down and try again to boot? Conversely how likely am I to hose Windows if I do shut down?

It finally rebooted. Almost two hours and I tested wifi on my phone at 30mbps. Damn that took a while.
