Hi,

I currently use a laptop to play online, however I want to invest in a desktop PC for poker. I am not a pro, and play a maximum of 8 tables at once so probably don't need an overly expensive PC.

I have a £400 voucher for curry's , so would want to get one from here. I have an open budget, but as I say, I just need a fast PC to play poker on, but it doesn't need to be top of the range. Having 2 screens would be a bonus.

Hi,

Curry's is not likely to be highly regarded by folks here. Looking at the link, I think the 14th generation processors are likely to offer you the best options - they're the computers with CPU names i5-14xxx (NOT i5-12xxx or i5-13xxx)

Some clarifying questions:
-Can you add more to the voucher?
-Do you need to buy the screens?
-What is the total budget?

My initial gut reaction is that you should probably buy the monitors second-hand from Facebook marketplace - for your needs, you don't need anything fancy, the cheapest stuff you can source (literally, there's a good chance you can find adequate stuff for actually free if you live in a British town)

also, the way that Currys displays stuff, the category you want will be "Tower PCs".

you probably don't need a fancy graphics card for gaming, you certainly don't want to pay more for an all-in-one, so Tower PC is what you'll want.

The rough mental model I am using is that you want to get the best CPU/processor and to skimp on most of the other stuff that Currys will try to sell you.

What is the processor on your laptop? Its probably plenty fast enough to play 8 tables unless its ancient. A 5 year old i5 is going to be plenty.

You might be better off getting a laptop docking station plus the monitors that you want and basically turn your laptop into a desktop.

ledn's advice is also reasonable. Maybe just getting bigger monitors will get you 90% of what you want here.
