I have one of these, it's plenty fast

as for the cpu cooler, you will need smth more substantial

cheaper one is a bit more silent, 2nd one cools better, both will do for the 5900x, more expensive one will allow for a higher manual oc

Cheers, ordered the A-Data 1TB XPG SX8200 PRO and managed to find the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 20€ cheaper somewhere else so easy choice to go with that.

Now fingers crossed for the build in a few days

e. actually no, I double checked and the Dark Rock Pro 4 is too large for my case. Dark Rock 4 would just about go with the case. Go with that or something different?

see if Noctua NH-D14 or 15 fit

Deepcool Assassin 3 also a good choice, but might not fit

Max CPU cooler height for my case is 160mm.

NH-D14 is 160 x 140 x 158mm (height first).

NH-D15S chromax.black is 160 x 150 x 135 mm while NH-D15 (original) is 165 x 150 x 161mm. You guys who know it better, is 160mm just enough or do you wanna leave some breathing space and aim for ~150-155mm height cooler?

I'd aim for 150mm or so to leave some tolerance. Fighting a cooler that doesn't quite fit is no fun.

All the quality ones seem to be massive and thus 160mm or more

This has been a great learning experience so far, going from almost zero PC part knowledge to mediocre, but man if I knew what I know now I wouldn't have just blindly gone for the first case. And no, not blaming anyone here, just that I should have studied these things more before buying. Note for everyone to check the specs if you're going for a certain CPU cooler, GPU or mobo.

e. Customer service from Jimms told that this should be small enough to install on my case: https://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show...ssorijaahdytin. It's 158mm. Does the 5900x need something more effective (and bigger)?

you could just pick a bigger case if you haven't ordered it already ^^
ye the 5900x needs either a substantial air cooler or a 240mm+ AIO
the AIO fits in small cases too. if you're set on using that case, it might be easier to go with one of these. I'd rather change the case but if you already got it, adapt
https://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/List...missarjat?ob=4
but idk much about these various all in ones, you will have to do your own research, or mby headtrauma can help you. the reason why I say do your research is that a few of these, esp as you go cheap, might be known to leak or have pump problems.

The case is on its way and most likely ill get it tonight. Sure, I can always return it but that further delays things for x days. Interesting that Phanteks 300A is not only cheaper but also a bigger case than my 400A. I might just go for that one instead.

I mean you don't HAVE to return it, a smaller cooler works fine, just doesn't let you push the cpu clocks higher manually. mby you're not into that and just plan to leave it on auto overclock, in which case surely you will find smth that fits , mby the Dark Rock 4, the non pro version or some Noctua or just go with a 240mm AIO, plant that in front and move the front fan to the back, above the cpu as exhaust, don't need to buy 2 more fans this way either.

if you already got those 2 extra fans as well, **** it, look for an air cooler that fits, preferably it has 8 heat pipes (usually you see them sticking up top) or get an AIO that has good reviews and keep the fans as backup for when your case fans start making weird noises and need replacing.

honestly, don't waste too much time with this decision, get what's in stock

CPU is by far the most expensive part of my system (at least until GPU upgrade). If I can make it last longer and work at its full capacity, I wanna do that and not settle for sub standard solution. I read a lot of reviews of Noctua's and bequiet!'s tier 4 and better cpu coolers and I'm convinced now to get one as well. Don't you think that's reasonable?

Most of these coolers require 165mm or more space which makes me wonder why cases don't leave that room as a default. You'd think you always wanna have that option to upgrade to a bigger cooler even If you went for another solution in the beginning. Aren't big ass cpu coolers as popular as I think?

welp cases lately are geared towards all in one cooling, that's been the flavor of the past 3-4 years, together with rgb lights and anal cable management. people want their system to look fancy as if it cost serious money. practicality and value for money takes a back seat in the enthusiast world.

I also think a bigger case is more practical for a lot of reasons, like it's easier to work inside it, can fit bigger air coolers and gpus, can fit more storage drives etc. and I personally don't like cases with a windows so you can see in, before they used to make the side panel out of steel and put some holes in there so you could stick 1 or 2 more fans, for better cooling.

yep the PC will be ~95% of the time in my basement under a table. I couldn't give a **** how the case looks.

In the end I decided to return Phanteks 400A case and order Lian Li LANCOOL II Mesh case instead. The latter seemed to be a chart topper in several categories and was on sale @ Jimms with only 10e more than 400A. Happy with that trade.

Both bequiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 and Noctua NH-D15 would fit into the new case. There didn't seem to be almost any differences between the two, other than NH-D15 is a bit bigger and thus heavier. However, Noctua offers 6 year warranty while bequiet! only 3 years so I ended up with Noctua. Now I should have all the parts ordered, excluding Windows 10. But that I should be able to get from eBay or so for cheap, if that info still stands.

ye I hear the Lianli Mesh 2 is sweet
just like the other case, 2 more 120mm fans needed for rear exhausts
google Windows 10 OEM key and pick one of the sellers
gl ,let us know how it goes

Build is going OK. Didn't have the right tools so had to stop yesterday lul. CPU, memory, SSD in place on the mobo.

Question about the fans: I have two 120mm fans pre installed on the front and one at the back. Where should I place other ones? On the top? I don't also quite understand which ones should be sucking the air in and which one(s) not. Could you explain the science behind this?

Actually few questions about the SSD: does it need the protector thingy in my hand? I was unable to find a clear answer in the user guide. Also, it seems like I'm missing a tiny screw to put the other side of SSD into the mobo. I doublechecked the box and can't find any screws. See the pic yourself. I would assume I should be putting it firmly in place and not leave like that.

ye just tape it on, I think it's got glue pre-applied
little bit of heat dissipation
if you mean the little screw that you need to secure the ssd to the mobo, those usually come in the mobo's mixed bag of screws, not always supplied by the ssd for some reason, even tho it would cost them a couple of cents... if you really can't find one, you can tape it to the mobo using some electrical tape (after you lay it on top of the stand-off, stick a bit of tape at the end)

Found the tiny screws! It was in the mobo package under everything. Didn't know to look from there. Thanks!

What about the fans?
New Computer Build for Poker Quote
08-17-2021 , 07:17 PM
fans will have their own screws in little baggies (in own packages)
just mount them where you see the holes, 1 rear exhaust, 1 just above the cpu, exhaust
pay attention to which side is the exhaust, either there are arrows painted indicating which side air goes or usually the side with the logo is the intake

Where does this cable go? It comes from the front panel pre installed. Judging from YouTube videos, it should go on hard drive/SSD but since I don't have that, does it go somewhere on the motherboard? Does it have to be plugged at all?

I'm all but done except that cable.

Cool, ty.

But wait a sec, how do I plug the PCI-E cable on my GT 1030? It has a DVI port.

e. I mean this is the first GPU that I'm ever holding. I just don't see any sockets where the PCI-E cables go (unlike in the more newer GPUs where they have two 8 pin sockets etc)

it doesn't need additional power from the power supply
your mobo can power alone
it's not a fancy gpu

CPU seems to be on and the fans are working. Same with GPU and its' fan. There are lights both on mobo and the case itself. The case fans are not working. Nothing displayed on the screen.

Any suggestions?

Update: Got the display to work but the case fans are still not spinning. I guess they are just not ported properly into mobo?
