Networking Question Networking Question

Total networking noob. Recently moved into a new house where we have gigabit internet. My wife and I both have Macbooks, hers newer than mine, but somehow I am getting 500+ Mbps while she is getting... 11. This is while sitting right next to each other, right next to the router.

Any ideas what could be causing such a massive difference in our wifi speeds?

By the sounds of things, there's likely something wrong with her device (after all, her device has the problem, yours doesn't)

1) How are you testing this?

2) Forgive me for saying this, but can you restart her machine? Maybe her device connected in some weird low speed mode, and restarting her machine may help her to reconnect "properly"

Does your router have separate SSIDs for 2.4/5GHZ bands? 5GHz has much better throughput but much shorter range.
