Memory Management Blue Screen of Death Memory Management Blue Screen of Death

Hi everyone,

For the last week, I got the Memory Management Blue Screen of Death, also had the computer crash as well that corrupted my user profile on Windows 10 and lost some documents. Ran a few tests and repairs, still kept occurring. Saw that my system only read 8 GB Ram and so I switch my Ram slots and it read to 16 correctly but BSOD still kept occurring. Finally reformatted today, still BSOD. Ran Memtest 86 and got 500+ errors. Almost 400 of the errors is on Test 7 [Moving Inversions, 32 bit pattern]. I also failed half the tests. The RAM stick is 18 months old. Running a AMD Ryzen 1600. I can run very basic stuff, and run a game for about 10 minutes before it crashes. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like failed RAM. If your memory is under warranty arrange an RMA replacement with the manufacturer. If it is out of warranty you can buy a new 2 stick kit (better but more expensive) or buy a single replacement stick that matches the specs of the first stick as closely as is practical.

Don't run a 3 stick config as your CPU has 2 memory channels and will perform best running an even number of RAM sticks (2 or 4).

try running same tests with 1 stick in at a time
find and replace the defective dimm
you want dual channel to work so you need to match frequency and latency if you're not getting the same stick

oh and swap dimms around in the other dual channel on your motherboard to rule out mobo issues, that b350 board should have 4 ram slots. if they work there, leave em be

Yea I figured as much based on the test results, but I'm not too familiar with technical specs like this. Yes my MB is Dual channel, so I have to get the same RAM type. I filled out an application for RMA, but I won't hear back till Tuesday at the latest. We'll see if they'll replace. RAM is super cheap so I'm not too worried.

I've already done this because earlier in the week my system was showing I only had 8 GB RAM which is not right. I moved the sticks to new slots and it shows 16 GB but still having crashes. I can safely assume MB is good. TY for the suggestion.

no, I mean the mobo has 2 dual channels, slots 1 and 3 form is one of them, 2 and 4 is the 2nd one

you prob pulled out the 3 from 1 and 3 and put it into the 2 or 4, at which point the board no longer sees the ram which was set up in dual channel mode, because one of the sticks was missing from that channel

instead take both the 1 and 3 and put them in 2 and 4

or just get a new stick and be done with it
you should get a replacement, but what I hear Adata is not known for fast customer support

btw when you're playing around with the ram, unplug the psu from the wall and keep the power button pressed for another 5 seconds to completely discharge the board

Yes I know what you were referring to. I put the sticks to slots 2 and 4. I could get new sticks but I'm cheap and I only bought these sticks 18 months ago. They have a 3 year warranty I think. Hopefully Adata come through sooner rather than later. I can still use the comp, but only for very light stuff, videos, web surfing, but no gaming .

you can try sending it back to the retailer instead of the manufacturer, usually that's faster and they'l take it off your hands and go through the RMA process themselves

Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got it.

Okay, so a really weird update. Since my last post, I've been sparingly using the desktop and it crashed a few times while I was doing light stuff like watching a video or web surfing, which was expected with bad RAM. Now starting from last night, I noticed that it stopped crashing, and the only thing I did was to remove the RAM sticks to obtain the warranty information from the sticks for the RMA request, and then put it back in to the same slots. I noticed that my desktop hasn't crashed and I thought maybe I should run mem test 86 again. And sure enough, after 2 runs ZERO errors! I don't understand what changed. I know how to put RAM sticks on. The only thing I can think of is that my motherboard's power cord can be really strange and finicky. I'm starting to think maybe the RAM sticks weren't getting enough power? I'm really perplexed. Any other possible solutions as to why my RAM sticks are working all of a sudden? Maybe they were a little loose? Anyways, I'll hold on to the request until Monday as that's when I was going to send the sticks back, but if I don't get any crashes, I will cancel the request.

EDIT: Okay after thinking about it another thing that changed is that I removed my wifi extender from the same power strip I plug my desktop to today, because the extender wasn't really doing much. Maybe the desktop wasn't getting enough power? But I don't think that would change the amount of power the desktop would get.
