Media player for OSX? Media player for OSX?

Hi all,

Since I've been on a Mac I've always used VLC, and it has worked fine.

Recently I bought a NAS (Synology) and streaming from it to VLC worked fine the first couple of days but after a few days (after a VLC upgrade I think) it started to lag.

I've tried playing videos in XBMC and there they run smoothly.

Just not that interested in using XBMC as my main media player.

You could try flip player which is made by telestream which makes solid media related products. I do use their capture software and it runs great.

Try their free player first obviously, i'm not sure what the benefits are but the player looks decent from the video. I just use vlc myself

Note: Take my post with a grain of salt because I don't use flip player.

Quicktime comes with every Mac.

From what I've read there used to be a great codec pack for Quicktime but there isn't anymore.

I tried MplayerX, but thought it was awful, really buggy.

Older versions of VLC are available on their official site:

http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/

Just choose the version number, and browse to the appropriate .dmg file found in the /macosx folder.

Originally clicked on this thread to recommend both VLC and XBMC having used them both. Have never come across anything better.

Thanks!

Downloaded 2.0.8 and it seems to work great!
