Low Disk Space Issue Low Disk Space Issue

I’m getting messages of low disk space = about 10mb. Had about 130mb yesterday and only added a few files – maybe 2mb max, but went from 100mb to 10mb. Total usable is about 148gb. Going through the entire disk (no partitions) I can only count up to about 60gb with some 45gb of Windows 7 Professional files. Tried disk cleanup – minor change. Also reduced restore points and emptied recycle bin.

Any ideas what’s taking up all the space and any suggestions.

Try TreeSize to see where your disk usage is at.

You really need to maintain >10% free space for the health of the disk and file system.
Yesterday was patch Tuesday, so Windows was likely attempting to pull down a couple hundred megs of update files in the background.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it and says I’m using up almost 64 GB for 100% of Parent (Allocated)??? but at bottom of screen says I only have about 1.2 GB out of 148 GB ( I deleted a whole directory previously). It also noted 248 errors in such non-access files like C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Diagnosis

Does this mean I have 148 - 64 = 84 GB unallocated? I tried Disk Mgt. quickly and did not see any indication of unallocated space.

Who - what- does Allocated mean . How can I change this so more is allocated for my use?

I think I may have solved (but not understand) the problem. Ran a version of CC cleaner I had on an old laptop and it removed some 90 GB of System temporary and login files. Why these weren't removed by Windows disk cleanup or showed up on my searches is still a mystery to me.

On a quick check things seem to be working as expected so kudos to CC cleaner-- at least so far.

CCleaner was compromised with malware recently. You should check and make sure you're clean.

Try posting screenshot of your Treesize, not sure exactly how you ended up with that usage pattern.

The CC cleaner installer I used is a 2011 version and I installed it today so I think I'm ok but will do some more checking tmw.
Thanks for the heads up.

Since I cleaned the disk I don't have the questionable Treesize screen but the current one makes sense - shows used = allocated of 46GB at the top which is sum of use of all the folders and at screen bottom shows 102GB is free.
