Moderators - I couldn't find a software/hardware troubleshooting subforum, and figured this was the best place for this post. Either move it to a better alternative

or let me know if there's a better subforum for me to post this question in. Thanks,

I recently got a headset/mic, so that later I can maybe get into a sweat session or review my poker game in some other ways. It works, but there is a minor problem

that I'm having with it and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced it and/or knows of a solution. I used to work on PC hardware a long time ago, but I'm

stumped; I've never seen this happen before. I'm thinknig there might be an easy remedy, either in the BIOS, or the operating system, where I can toggle/reset the

3.5mm ports, but I really have no idea and didn't see anything related to my problem after googling for a half hour.

The headset is a Logitech Stereo Headset H150. It has two 3.5mm jacks; one is for earphones (green port), and the other is for the microphone (pink port). The

operating system is a newer version of Windows. When I connect both jacks into the 3.5mm ports on the laptop, they both "bounce" back out about 1/8 on an inch, so

that the jacks are still connected, but not completely. It's almost as if either the tolerance of the jacks/ports is off just a little, or there's a spring in the

ports that pushes the jacks back out.

The result is that the headset works (earphones and microphone), but because connection is not completely snug, I can also hear the sound coming from the machine when

I take the headset off, as though no headset was in use at all. This does not really bother me, however, if I'm reviewing a game in the AM hours, my girlfriend is

asleep and has to get up in the morning for work, and I don't want her to lose any sleep due to hearing the sometimes annoying sounds of cards being shuffled, etc,

etc. Device Manager does not list any problems. When I first plug in the headset, and the jacks "bounce" out a bit, I see an Information bubble appear on the right

side of the task bar, saying, "You just unplugged a device from the audio jack". Has anyone ever experienced this and, is there a fix that you know of? Thanks, MP

I had to take a call real quick and thought there was an edit button for when I returned, but I don't see one, so the edited/re-formatted original post follows:

The OP reads a little better now. I've since heard that some older ports won't accept the newer jacks because of them being longer. I don't think that's the issue with my laptop, however, because it's a newer one and came with Win7 on it already. Even if the stereo jacks are longer, I don't think my hardware is old enough to not compensate for the newer jacks - I really don't know, though. I may just have to call Logitech's customer support for this one.

I guess maybe the jacks are longer than the ports will easily accept (idk). A couple of zip ties work, as of now, at keeping both jacks firmly connected.

If you don't feel a click when you insert the plugs, just the push back out, then your plugs are too short for the jacks, not too long.

Oh. Well, that's probably what it is then. The jacks I have are too short. I used some small zip ties to hold the two jacks together (not quite being parallel). Now, I have to pretty much plug them both in at the same time, but they don't push back out anymore. Thanks WindigoBob.
