Looking for a new mouse.

Comfort is most important to me.
Would like a mouse with a wire instead of bluetooth.
I don't need it for gaming. (except poker, but I assume that's way different from a FPS or something like that).

Any recommendations?

Length: 20cm
Width: 10-11cm
Finger Tip

I don't know what a reasonable price is for a mouse, but something like 25-30 euros would be nice unless that is way too little for a good mouse there is a good amount of wiggle room there.

Thanks man!

if you're in EU, in that price range you should find

Steelseries Rival 3
Dream Machines DM1 ,DM4 and DM5
Natec and Marvo make ok budget mice. look for similar shapes to the ones above
Logitech G102/G203 solid build but too small for 20 / 10 hands

Black Friday coming soon, mice and keyboards are always on sale. Can get something a bit nicer for the same money if you can wait.

I say stay away from generic office mice, they're almost always crap and don't last much more than a year. They're not even cheaper in the long run.

well amazon decided to use usps so wont be here til tomorrow.. oh well

i find the idea of a mouse being "light" pretty strange cause its already so light, but we'll see. definitely ready to try something new, sad to hear that about logitech as ive always been a fan(as evident by history) and almost just got a new 518 after a friend told me they relaunched it.

keyboard MAY be next, but im already spending a fair amount on my car for fun, trying to be responsible. had a brief scare today stumbling on another car lol...

all in due time buddy xD
good thing I'm not into cars, anything that's reliable, cheap to maintain, small and gets me from A to B will do. Got a new Suzuki Swift a couple of years ago when the new model came out, love this little thing, it's like a budget Mini Cooper. Previous Japanese car I owned had for 10 years with nothing but the yearly service done and a change in suspension and transmission after 7 years.

i got my current car a few years ago, i figured being 26 it was probably the last time for a while i could be "irresponsible" so i got an 07 audi a4 for a pretty decent price. its been incredibly reliable for the 4+ years ive had it, recently got it tuned and an intake for extra turbo noises lol. the awd is fantastic and its a beast in the snow here. this was a '99 porsche boxster, my dream car as a kid lol, 5spd manual, convertible, clean considering the age. figured it was better to let my money keep doin its thing in robinhood than cash some out to "waste" on a sports car lol...

mouse has arrived, definitely so much more smooth with the fresh feet. it is quite light BUT the mouse click seems so much harder than any mouse im used to. gonna take a little bit to not notice the heavy clicks. sent my friend a pic of the box and he sent me back a pic of his on his mousepad lol.. had no idea i was joining the club

the buttons are heavier on bespoke gaming mice by design to prevent accidental clicks and pre/post travel, i.e. clicks right at the top and you know exactly when you've tapped it. same with the wheel, it's intentionally heavier so you don't switch weapons and stuff when you touch a corner with your index finger or when you lift and drop it. If memory serves me, the buttons on the model D are actually lighter than on most other hardcore gaming mice; just this past 2 weeks there were a couple of cool releases, more and more big brand manufacturers have taken to reddit and are now implementing mods that were exclusively custom into their gaming line.

do you like the shape?
Keyboard and Mouse Thread Quote
11-12-2020 , 07:25 PM
yeah its not bad, if anything id say its a tad too small tbh. it sorta feels like when i casually rest my hand on it, its too loose of a grip to really notice the shape. when i hold it like i would for gaming my hand feels a little tight, but i can see the allure. with middle finger on the wheel, my index/ring are def on the outer parts of the buttons. almost feels like a deathadder but a bit more curve

the wheel rolls pretty much normally to me, but the press does seem more firm there too. i dont mind it but itll take some getting used to the buttons, opening some programs tonight it seemed like my first click wasnt registering, or the double was moved/too slow to open them like i have the 1000 times before

aforementioned friend has a lancehead tournament at work i used the other day, wouldnt be able to stand using that one much. side buttons are miniscule and in a weird spot

too small huh
welp it's not a 100% palm mouse unless you have small hands
more of a palm-fingertip hybrid thing
it is the largest mouse Glorious make and among the largest of these new gen lightweights
if you don't like it tho, return it, no point in fighting with a shape you don't like

no.1 comfy mouse for me is a discontinued Logitech model, the G602. ended up selling my copy cause the sensor was crap for shooters and never found a comfier one since. can still find it around for ~70$, might grab one to replace the 2nd mouse I use in rotation for windows work. was a thing of beauty..

its not a big enough deal to return, i think itll grow on me. it feels pretty good, just different. i think thats about how i am holding it, been a while since i seriously played fps, but i think my grip was a little different then. first order of business was definitely remapping the dpi; i think i have it on 1000 now, the presets were way too noticeably fast or slow to get used to

pre-BF keyboard deals for us EU folks on Banggood EU warehouses. Czech warehouse has free shipping in central and east Europe.

my picks:

https://www.banggood.com/GamaKay-K87...r_warehouse=CZ

Hot swap TKL board already equipped with an excellent budget switch, Gateron yellow. One of the few budget boards to come standard with gat yellows.

Hot swap means you can remove swtiches w/o having to de-solder.
Few advantages here: 1. replace a malfunctioning switch, 2.try out different switches. this will accept both 3 and 5 pin switches, literally anything cherry mx "inspired". 3. easy access to open and lube them up, film them, change the springs etc. 4.easy access to stabilizers, for proper lubing, band aiding or repairing/replacing. this board takes plate mounted stabs.

Esthetics might not be for you with the crazy light show and keycaps are of standard mediocre quality, thin ABS, at least they're doubleshot so the lettering doesn't wear off and the font is alright, none of that gamery nonsense.

Here's what it looks/sounds like after mods. Btw mods are cheap and straight forward to do but they are time consuming. Lube needs to be re-applied once every 2 years or so.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF8FN2_a5OM

2nd pick

https://www.banggood.com/AKKO-3084-S...r_warehouse=CZ

Akko is Ducky's Chinese agent and their boards usually share a lot of parts. They are essentially on par in quality, but Akko is significantly cheaper. These are a couple of tiers above your Razers/Logitechs/Corsairs so on.

What you get here is solid build quality and great quality keycaps. Way nicer than your standard big brand mech. Thick, PBT, sound is deeper and less clanky, they don't change color over time, legends don't fade and they don't pick up shine from finger oils. They also have a nice rougher texture for better grip.

Layout is a typical 65% but with and F row. You're only missing your numberpad. Stabilizers are of decent quality and factory lubed, thick steel mounting plate.
Not hot swappable so none of the benefits mentioned above, but you are getting 50$ worth of keycaps, this would be the least amount of money you'd have to pay for a nice set of keys.

This one's not on sale right now, but I think banggood has 10% off coupons out now so I'm pretty sure you can pick it up for ~80$.

The only pre-builts that are a step up in quality from something like this would be Leopold ,Varmilo or Vortex and those are in the 150$ range.

just in case you want to splurge, couple or pre-orders open now. ETA date who knows with the pandemic, prob summer 2021.

https://oblotzky.industries/products...kshake-edition - 220 eur

65% layout
smoothest linear switch you can find right out the box, factory lubed with the king of lubes, Krytox 205g0
hotswap pcb
quality cherry profile keycaps (these are nicer and a bit lower than OEM, which is what you find on 9x% of pre-builts)
pre installed thick silicone dampening pad that fills the inside completely (for removing echo and ping)
top stabilizers
compatible with QMK and VIA (best pieces of software for in depth macros and such)
seems expensive but it's not really for what it offers. if you were to build your own with the same parts, you'd end up spending about the same.

https://wooting.store/products/wooti...127.1604075139 - 180 eur

full size Hall Effect keyboard
contact-less switches, much like opticals, but these effectively have infinite reliability, they are approximated at hundreds of billions of actuations, rather than the pedestrian tens of millions that cherry mx and clones get rated for. they would likely take you 2000 years to start failing but nvm, they're cool

there's an assembly on the pcb and a magnet, together with another magnet in the switch. when these get closer to each other, i.e. you press a key, the sensor detects the increase in magnetism and registers a key press. magnets don't wear out, the sensor is solid state so that won't wear out, so these will basically last you and your next 20 generations (prob until someone spills a coke on the pcb and fries something)
they are incredibly smooth because they have no contact points, it's just a spring pushing a magnet down

they have analog capabilities, i.e. you can use your keyboard as a controller, for instance in driving games or you can bind multiple actions/macros on different stages of pressing a key down.
you can set your own actuation distance, can move it as high or low as you wish.
wooting has another optical keyboard capable of analog input, with the clever use of prisms to reflect the infrared light in different angles on a sensor, which in turn determines how far down you've pressed a key. however I do not recommend that one because of a glaring fault in the stems of their switches, they had to be made out of thin transparent plastic and so they constantly break.
they have good software with profiles for games and tons of guides on how to get stuff going. really cool company, they've built a whole community around them.

prob a TKL version of this in the future. I'm planning to get that one.

just got a cheap Razer Huntsman TE Red (TKL) for 85$ on a pre BF deal and I wasn't expecting to like it so much.

if you've ever used an IBM model M, it kinda feels like a linear version of that (w/o the tactility), even sounds similar too, nice and meaty.

every single key has a stabilizer, hence the metallic sound signature, they're smooth since they're contact-less and everything but the spacebar sounds good. arguably overkill to stabilize every single key and it's the first board I've ever owned to do this and as a big plus, absolutely no binding going on, even on the large keys, at whichever angle you press a key, it will go down super smooth and not catch. there's more keycap wobble than on cherry mx but not too bad.

build quality is alright, bit too light, plastic with a thin alu mounting plate, looks decent, at least there's nothing obnoxious. their illuminated logo is now a stealthy print above the arrow keys, hardly visible. 2 tilt angles is really nice. keycaps are of reasonable quality, pretty thick PBT and quite a bit more textured than usually. they're doubleshot and as expected, the backlight is poor, this is a common product of 2shotting pbt but it's esp poor on the Huntsman, almost half the characters are inconsistent.

the font could've been better but it's a step up from the old gamery font they were using. the number row characters are much larger than the alphas and I've no idea why that is, looks weird, but w/e. if you're ocd about these things, you won't like these keycaps. for anyone else, no need to invest in a better set as these will last forever and shine very little.

switches are optical, meaning there are infrared emitters and photoresistors on the pcb where every key sits and all the switch does is drop a pin to block the light beam and that closes the circuit. speaking of how high it registers, these trigger at 1mm which is really high, most mechs you're used to actuate at 2mm. total travel is 3.5mm, down from 4mm traditionally. this isn't super noticeable but the 1mm trigger is. it's not enough to rest your fingers on the keys to register unwanted presses but every time you accidently brush a key, it will register. if you're particularly clumsy when typing, this will result in typos until you get used to it. I don't mind tho.

I will say these switches are esp nice for micro movement in games, as the actuation and reset points are identical and there's no bump to overcome, so all you do is keep the key half pressed and gently move your finger up and down to spam the key. much faster than you can with any contact based switch.

not much else to say, detachable usb c cable, kind of short and stiff but fine. it's one the left side. some people prefer it this way, most like it center with cable gutters on all sides.

some mods are required to get the best of this board. first, I will open it up and fill the hollow bottom niches with sound absorbing foam. second, I want to apply a bit of ptfe grease to all the key stabilizers, as well as the large ones. for the 2u+ unit keys, they're using different stabs from cherry and these are clearly better, actually good right out the box. like I said, spacebar is the only one that needs some work. switches themselves cannot be open and I'm afraid to try and lube the spring from the bottom, it might drip on the pcb and interfere with the infrared assembly.

overall, really not a bad board. if you're in the market for a mech and can find this for under 100$, it's a really solid choice. Didn't think I'd be saying this, but gj Razer.

I had Rival 3, was nice
only had DM1, a bit smaller and less comfy
had a Marvo that I liked but it's been discontinued, no way you'l find it

my all time favorite comfy mouse was the Logitech G602. the model does have some common issues down the road like double clicking registering on a single click and the wheel doesn't last that long, I'd say you can expect it to last you 1.5-2 years in tip top shape so it's kind of hard to recommend because of that.

Logitech replaced it with the G604, haven't tried it but it's a bit smaller on paper, on sale for 73 eur on amazon.de now, so might be outside your budget.

similar shape, Razer Basilisk, there is a cheap version, it's also smaller but pretty comfy

G502 is cheaper than G6xx and reasonably comfy if I recall. kind of heavy and boring tho.

I have an MX Master 3 that's too expensive for what it is but it's pretty comfy.

not a lot of big mice being made these days, it's all about small and light, which are indeed better for aiming but not as nice to hold.

I've heard good things about the Cooler Master MM720, supposed to be really comfy even for large hands, did not try as I haven't seen any in stock. will buy one when I get the chance.

my all time favorite mouse, Endgame XM1, overkill if you don't play shooters and on the expensive side but perfect overall mouse in my book. not super comfy but not bad at all.

Is a small mice a problem?

Logitech G602 sounds nice, but yeah would rather have mouse that lasts.

I looked up the Rival 3 before and it looked good and was affordable.

Cooler Master MM720 looks good, but it's expensive. I'm going to look for BF deals for that one. Same for the Razer Basilik.

I think there are 4 models of Basilisk, shape stays the same. The cheapest one I see on sale all the time for 30-35 eur. I think Rival 3 and Basilisk are safe bets. if you don't like the one you get, return it.

small mice are kind of weird. they're meant to be clawed or fingertipped and they're thin in the middle which helps with throwing them around in games, but when you try and hold them in a relaxed way, there's not enough surface to rest your hand and you end up with 2 fingers completely off the mouse which you need to drag. there are people with small hands that won't have this problem but it's really not ideal for us.

there are a few Asus Rog mice that are interesting, these have hot swap switches for the clicks and they give you a couple extra in the box, i.e. clicks don't work properly anymore, it's easy to take the mouse apart, the more expensive models are held together with magnets, you take out the switch by hand and pop the new on in.

tried the Gladius, didn't like the shape, I think Pugio and Strix Impact 2 might be ok. Strix I've seen for 35 eur, Pugio prob more in the 50+ region.

where do you shop? gimme 1 or 2 links. I can take a look for you when BF comes.
