hi

I ordered a replacement laptop screen for my machine, it arrived yesterday and I fitted it, this was easy enough, however once ive turned the machine on I can notice a faint mark when theres a dark background, it can only be noticed when theres a dark background, I took a photo of this mark and it looks even worse and noticeable in the photo, I thought this mark might have been dust or whatever and have tried cleaning it with a screen wipe which made no difference, so this is def a problem with the screen? when I move windows across the screen the mark stays in the same place, could it be dead pixels? could it be a problem with my laptop and not the screen? im guessing this is unlikely? when the laptop is turned off the mark on the screen isnt noticeable, only when the machine is on or taking a photo of the screen with my camera

Looks like backlight bleed. Is the screen you installed a standalone screen or the whole top clamshell? If you can exchange without huge hassle or expense you should do so.

Yeh was a screen I had to screw into the laptop lid, going to return and ask for a replacement, just hope they don't give me any hassle

it's not the pixels
manufacturing fault would be my guess, one of the 2 pieces of glass has a defect/scratch on it and what you can see is the back light shining through
send them the pic and ask before you send it back, if they give you ****, would just leave as is if it's not that noticeable, but then again, I'm a lazy bum

Backlight bleed like that can also be caused by pressure on the screen. Before you send it back, unscrew the screen and double check that there's not a cable or something putting pressure on that spot when assembled. It's most likely a manufacturing defect, but checking for a pressure hotspot is probably still worth a try.

I tried what you suggested but had no luck, the mark or whatever it is still there so have spoken to the place I bought it from and showed them a photo of the mark in an email, they have agreed to replace it for me
