Internet explorer won't start Internet explorer won't start

On my laptop, I usually use Firefox but sometimes internet explorer. Firefox works fine. But internet explorer won't start. It says it cannot connect to the internet, but clearly wireless is working since Firefox is working.
I ran the troubleshooting procedures and it tells me Windows is "not currently managing your wireless connection".
How do I make this happen?
Thank you for responses.

What IE do you have? They have IE 8 out now I think.

-Reset your connection
-Get newest IExplorer
-Switch to Opera, better anyways, imo.

check to make sure IE isn't being blocked by your firewall

Thanks for suggestions.
I downloaded internet explorer 8, but I cannot find the new icon. I just clicked on the original internet explorer icon and it still does not work. Add/remove programs tells me that old internet explorer has bee replaced with ie 8, so I think I downloaded it fine.
I went to my firewell and added internet explorer to the list of exceptions. Still nothing.
I downloaded chrome, and it did not work. Will try opera, never heard of that though.
Fwiw the 3 bars which are usually green, but yellow when searching for a network, are gone. So is volume control etc, on the bottom right corner of my screen.

if i thought it was likely, i would have said "unblock IE in your firewall". there are forum posts around (not necessarily here) where IE had gotten blocked, so it does happen.
