GTX 1050 is plenty for non-gaming use at those resolutions. Running off your laptop may or may not allow higher than 60Hz refresh rate. That's mainly an issue for gaming but is a bit smoother in overall use too. 60Hz is the standard for general use and would be fine for poker. Both of those are gaming targeted monitors so you're paying extra for features that you probably won't be using.
I have one of these, colors aren't as good as IPS but lot's of screen real estate for the price. This is 3840x2160.

You could also do a 32 or 27 inch 2560x1440 panel or non gaming targeted ultrawide to save a couple hundred bucks (assuming you're not gaming and looking for gamer specific features).
I've never used or seen this monitor in the flesh, but the specs and price seem good. Check reviews if you get serious about it.

I have an older version of this monitor (2711) as my secondary. Dell Ultrasharps are quality monitors with good color and stands. This is solidly a business targeted monitor, you can game on it but it won't have any gamer specific features.

You can snag an IPS 3440x1440 screen that does 60Hz for $450 (maybe less if you find a sale).

I'd steer clear of 2560x1080 screens. Costs are lower but you don't have a ton of real estate/pixel density to work with.
