I generally have Facebook up on a tab while I do other internet browsing, and when I get a instant message on Facebook and I am typing on another page for example this post it stops me from typing and worse though If I have a type and hit back it goes back an entire page. Therefore I lose in many cases what I have typed, which in a couple cases has been more than annoying as they were pretty large posts or updates on other pages etc?

Can this be fixed or do I have to just take FB down whenever typing anything over a couple sentences?

If you are just using the Facebook tab for instant messenger, I would suggest you use a dedicated IM client that supports Facebook (Pidgin does).
