Background: I grew up as a PC user. I've used PCs all my life, and I never had any problems or irritation in my eyes.

But once I got my first job out of college (8 months ago), I had to start using a Macbook Pro for work. The first few months of using it went fine, but after around month 4, the screen really started hurting my eyes. I mean like just looking at the Apple screen would make my eyes hurt significantly. I turned down the brightness, and even downloaded a program called Flux to reduce glare/etc, but my eyes continue to hurt.

Fwiw, my eyes ONLY hurt when I look at the macbook screen. When I use my PC at home, or look at any other screens, my eyes are fine. My vision is perfect (I went to check it last week), but it's just that my eyes feel strained when looking at the Mac screen.

Has anyone ever experience anything similar? Have you guys tried anything that worked? I even bought an anti-glare cover for the screen, but that hasn't really worked. Lastly, I also started looking away from the monitor every 30 mins, but that doesn't seem to be doing much.

The part that bothers me the most is that my vision is perfectly fine, and whenever I use any other computer ... my eyes don't hurt at all. Any advice would be appreciated

what's the refresh rate on those things (my guess is it's different than your home pc)? also have you tried messing with the other settings or just brightness?

easy solution would be to buy an external monitor and use that, although defeats the purpose of a laptop.

i can't change my refresh rate it's like locked in.

Is there some kind of program that might be able to help me with this?

You should jump in this thread and see if they ever figured out what the deal is.

coles notes of that thread (and this issue in general)

all new MacBook Pros have LED lit screens. when the screen is at full brightness it is essentially always "on". as your dim the screen the screen kind of "pulses" on and off at a very fast rate. the more dim you make it, the longer the "off" pulses last. most people aren't sensitive to the pulsing, but some are. you can't actually "see" it happening (it happens way too fast for the human eye to detect) but it can really do a number on you if you're sensitive to it.

my cousin's husband bought a new 13" MBP a few months ago and started noticing this issue within a week or two. he has found that keeping the screen all the way up at full brightness helps. if you want to actually lower the brightness you might try something like screen shade, which is a free 3rd party widget which runs in your menu bar. i believe it works by adjusting the gamma of the screen rather than the actual LED backlight itself.
