Have a little problem,

Ethernet on my computer disconnects and reconnects after a few seconds.

I'm fairly certain this is my computer specifically as I have tested network with other computers as well and they all had no problem.

I found a temp think which works for a while and that is release and renew IP,
The problem with that is I have things set up like Wake up on Lan which I have to put the IP again.

Wondering if anyone knows of a more solid fix. Tried updating drivers etc but have the latest ones.

From what I can tell it's pretty random when it does it, Just gets pretty annoying when it does it though. Some times it happens when I'm in a middle of a game and I just freeze for a good 5 seconds and other times I'm watching streams etc.

Any help much appreciated.

Are you certain that the problem is on your local ethernet connection, and not somewhere elsewhere between your PC and the servers etc.?

I don't know tbh, I wouldn't know how to find that out


So what I done to test this,

-Changed Ethernet cables,
-Changed the port I plug into my router
-Had another PC next to my PC connected Via Ethernet and only my PC dropped connection and the other PC was fine.

It literally just happened again dropping like 5 times over the space of 2 minutes, Hasn't really happened all day until now.

i've had some really dumb things happen with network drivers, where the only fix is to fully uninstall the driver and reinstall it. it doesn't work if i only update the driver - i have to fully uninstall it and then reinstall.

so i'd recommend fully uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling. make sure that you have downloaded a compatible driver before you uninstall the current driver, or else you'll need to use another computer to download the driver and then copy it over to your computer with a thumb drive or something.

failing that, and barring some other weird OS/software bug, it seems like you've tested everything else, and it might point toward the network card / motherboard hardware being faulty.

Does your PC have a Wifi card you could test on, try using the wifi see does same thing happen.

Other than that and from what you have already tested/swapped i would do what joe12286 has mentioned,

i remember several years ago i had similar sounding problem it was some weird windows update.

Maybe see if there is any update awaiting you in system updates

As a side note next time it happens

open CMD see can you ping for example 127.0.0.1 (this will see if your ip stack is working) also while doing try ping google 8.8.8.8 etc just to see is it total loss of connectivity to the internet.

also do ipconfig /all (see if you have an IP address other than 169.*.*.*) maybe share the outputs.
