I just want to do a straight copy of my hard drive to a new one but have all the extra space available. Everything I find on Google takes me to sites that tell me to download their free program. I'm on Windows 10.

Do you really need to "clone" your old drive? Honestly I'm not sure exactly what that would mean. Can't you just plug both into your computer and then copy all the files from one to the other?

I wasn't able to copy my last hard drive onto my current hard drive because it wouldn't boot up properly. I had to erase everything and start from scratch.

I assume I need to clone my current hard drive if I want to be able to boot up the new one.

Oh, I thought you were talking about external drives, probably because I've never changed an internal drive for a larger one. Hope someone else can help you.

Does the new drive come with any utilities? I got a Samsung drive SSD and cloned everything form an old drive - including the operating system - using Samsung Magician. No problems.

Haven't purchased it yet. Don't want to purchase until I know I can do it or I'm ok with losing everything on my current drive.

Yes, cloning your hard drive is easy to do.

The general consensus is that it is easier to do than people (eg, you) expect.
